Norway: MGP 2016 Kicks Off!

NorwayNorway – National broadcaster NRK has opened its selection process for Melodi Grand Prix 2016. It has also appointed a new manager and Head of Delegation, Mr Jan Frederik Karlsen to run the national final this year. If you want to be considered as an entrant for Norway you can send your submission up until 11th September 2015. The full rules can be found here. It’s open to all but Norwegians are positively encouraged to apply.

Norway has won the competition three times to date. Bobbysocks (1985),  Secret Garden (1995) and Alexander Rybak (2009).

It’s probably more famous for worst results and nul points. It came last in 1963, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1981, 1990, 1997, 2001, 2004 and 2012, and scored nul points in 1963, 1978, 1981 and 1997.

Recent years have been more successful, with three top 10 finishes from Margaret Berger (4th in 2013), Carl Espen (8th in 2014) and Mørland & Debrah Scarlett (8th in 2015) in the last 3 years.

  1. They seem they can’t wait up there in the north :P

Norway is probably my fav esc country when it comes to the last three years:
    #4 in 2013, #1 in 2014, #1 in 2015.

    Good luck!

  2. So, when will Jahn Teigen return? He’s always great to watch, even if his songs are far from always.

  3. I’m sure Norway will deliver again next year. All 3 of their Top 10 places were deserving. Let’s hope they’ll find a song that can appeal to the televoters (the people didn’t like Carl nor Mørland and Debrah) while remaining a jury darling. Good luck, Norway!

  4. I’ve got a song for the next Eurovision, and I’m pretty proud of it, so I will rush to record it and submit it :-)

  5. I hope we can get into the top 3 next year :D
