ET Awards 2015: Best Backdrop!

Eurovision Times Awards 2015Eurovision 2015 – This year we resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes (the Fridas) for the best in every category! And you get to vote! Today, we resume the polls with the two categories focused on backings and backdrop!

2015 will be the second year for Eurovision Times to organize a new contest (you can check 2013’s results here and the 2014’s ones here). As with the past couple of years, our blog hosts now two contests: TEKO which takes place before the contest and the “Eurovision Times Awards” after the contest. The principle of the ET Awards is simple, in each categories, the staff of this website will nominate a few entries per categories and open polls for the public to vote in them so we can reveal afterwards all the winners. The winners recieve an imaginary trophee, entitled the Fridas in hommage to Frida Boccara, the French Eurovision winner in 1969 with “Un jour, un enfant“.

The tenth award is in the “Delegation” category and it’s “Best Backdrop”. Here are the results of the recommendations made by the regular users of Eurovision Times in this category:

  • 10 France
  • 7 Estonia
  • 7 Latvia
  • 4 Georgia
  • 3 Azerbaijan
  • 3 Armenia
  • 3 Belgium
  • 3 Sweden
  • 3 Hungary
  • 3 Ireland
  • 2 Italy
  • 1 Macedonia
  • 1 Switzerland

However, it’s down to the staff of Eurovision Times to choose the official nominees. But it’s up to you to vote in our poll below which entry had the best backdrop this year! You need to click on the country’s name to be redirected to the video of the song. The nominees in alphabetical order are:

  • Belgium‘s minimalist b&w at the Grand Final

  • Estonia‘s city night at the Grand Final

  • France‘s warn-torn village at the Grand Final

  • Georgia‘s emo/manga style at the Grand Final

  • Latvia‘s artistic vision at the Grand Final

Rules: the polls will be open for a week. At the end of the week, an article will announce the winner of the category but not the detailed results. The full results will however be given to you once all polls are closed so that you don’t get influenced (we never know) in your following votes. Every IP gets only one vote, please do not cheat, do take in consideration to watch very careful to the backdrop before voting and do not vote necessarly for your favorite song but vote regarding to the category. Of course, it’s pointless to vote only for your own country unless you’re really certain it should win. May the best win!

  1. For fairness, I won’t say for which I have voted!

  2. I would have chosen Azerbaijan if that one was nominated. But now it’s France instead. A great way to give all non-French speakers out there in Europe at least a little hint of what the song was about.

  3. I’d love to see Ireland being nominated here. I voted for France.

  4. France or Latvia?Hmm….They both really added a lot to the performances of the respective songs. The French backdrop is straight forward and helps people understand what the song is about. The Latvian one is more abstract and it helps convey the feeling of the song and Aminata’s artistic vision.

  5. I nominated Azerbaijan cause I am a sucker for gloomy stuff :P
    Out of 5 :
France is TOO much in your face
I am surprised with Belgium’s nomination. The background almost swallowed the backing vocalists dressed in white. Minimalist YES, but I would have gone for red!
Georgia leaves me completely cold and it was too static. Plus the tears were irrelevant? Or maybe warriors do cry after all :P
Estonia was ok, but the biggest asset here was Elina’s performance. She made me almost ignore anything else
Latvia on the other hand was MESMERISING!!!

  6. Belgium followed by France.

    • I have just mentioned you on the FDLC7 thread … and there you are. I said that the Korean entry reminded me of TUR01 and that you would probably love it. I am not sure though because I can only access the song in a turbo buffering version. I listened to it in hundreds of sound splinters. LOL

  7. It was a hard choice between Latvia and France, but I chose Latvia in the end.

  8. Tough one… Georgia had a fantastic backdrop but I think Estonia did a better job at making their backdrop add to the subject of the song. I voted for them

  9. This was a tough one, everyone deserves it for different reasons:

Estonia: cool use of the doors, but thats it really. In the rest of the song the camera is zoomed in on their faces, so not much use of the backdrop.
France: I like this backdrop a lot, but the animations could have been approved imo.
Belgium: The backdrop here was black and white going in all directions, nothing special really, only setting the mood of the song.
Georgia: This backdrop has its moments, really like the crying eyes haha, but its just a tad to much all over the place sometimes.
Latvia: First time I saw this backdrop I was in love with it and I still am, using the song to the fullest when they made it, artistic and setting the mood perfectly, so this gets my vote! ^^

    • Surprised you didnt comment backings!

      • Idk :P haha ^.^ The backings from Israel, Belgium and Hungary were all very good in different ways, voted for Hungary in the end doh! Hungary was my hate/love song this year, simply loved the musicality and people singing in harmony (am sooo weak to that stuff :P), but hated the lyrics.

  10. France hands down here. Worked perfectly with the camera on tv as well.

Damn I feel like I am betraying Loic on every category :-P

  11. I voted for Latvia, but France was great too!

OT: Has anyone read what Maria-Elena said about the Greece-Cyprus votes this year? Pathetic. I hate people who blatantly support neighbor/diaspora/bloc voting.

  12. Offtopic, but these are cute news from Luxembourg: http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/luxembourg-prime-minister-xavier-bettel-marries-same-sex-partner

Maybe one day soon we’ll see them back <3

  13. Voted for Georgia. Really meshed well together with everything the song was.

Latvia was great, but for me didn;t mesh with the song. Gothic for a pretty tribal song. It was pretty but clashing.

France was perfect for the song too. Really elevated it.

Belgium and Estonia shouldn’t be in IMO. May be too minimal and not used respectively. I’d have nominated Hungary and Azerbaijan. Creative, edgy very fitting.

  14. […] can click here to look at the full recommendations and nominations from last week’s article! There were 50 recommendations for 13 countries in the first round and 138 votes were cashed in an […]
