Albania: Second Semifinal Tomorrow

Albania – After Ukraine last week, it is time to head to Albania where the second national final of the season is currently taking place, heading towards a grand final on Saturday! Read a full recap from semi 1 and get all the information to be ready for semi2!

Technically, it’s not so much as a semifinal than a presentation of half the entries as Saturday all songs will be competing again. But tomorrow, Friday the 27th, we will discover the last 8 of the competing entries to represent Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. Each singer will also get to do a duet with a guest singer and together they’ll perform an old FiK song.

Tonight we already had the first semifinal. These 8 songs were presented to us:

  1. Kthehu by Luiz Ejlli (then he performed I tuaj to with Mira Konçi)
  2. Në zemër by Rezarta Smaja (then she performed Vjeshta with Elton Deda)
  3. Vetëm për ty by Entela Zhula & Edmond Mancaku (then they performed S’ma njohe zemren with Altin Goci)
  4. Natë e pare by Venera Lumani & Lindi Islami (then they performed Jeta nuk eshte loder with Olta Boka)
  5. Kur qielli qan by Xhejn & Enxhi Kumrija (then they performed Shi bie ne tirane with Redon Makashi)
  6. Mjegulla by Renis Gjoka (then he performed Me dhe drite nga syri yt with Kejsi Tola)
  7. Mikja ime by Blerina Braka (then she performed Zhgenjimi with Kamela Islamaj)
  8. Zemërimi i një nate by Herciana Matmuja (then she performed Ma ke prish gjumin e natës with Endri & Stefi Prifti)

Renis Gjoka’s song was originally titled Nuk e di but was replaced by Mjegulla tonight. Is it the same song with just a change in the title? Sajmir Braho was supposed to sing as #7 but couldn’t. His song and his duett with Flaka is expected to take place in the second semifinal and was instead replaced by Blerina Braka who was supposed to go first in the second semifinal. Here’s tomorrow’s line-up:

  1. Sajmir Braho (duet with Flaka Krelani)
  2. Marjeta Billo (duet with Juliana Pasha)
  3. Xhejsi Jorgaqi (duet with Eranda Libohova)
  4. Klodian Kacani (duet with Rovena Dilo)
  5. Frederik Ndoci (duet with ?)
  6. Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodran Tolaj (duet with ?)
  7. Orges Toce (duet with ?)
  8. Lynx (duet with Eneda Tarifa)

After a few issues with the hosts, RTSH has announced four total names: Marinela Meta and Xhesika Berberi, two beauty queens, will accompany Enkel Demi on stage for the semifinals and Enkel Demi will be joined by Klea Huta for the final. As for the juries they’ve also been announced: Agim Krajka (composer), Aleksander Lalo (composer), Bojken Lako (songwriter), Eriona Rushiti (composer), Hajg Zaharian (composer), Petrit Malaj (actor) and Xhevair Spahiu (songwriter).

  1. 06 Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodrolaj – Jam larg: it feels like the adult version of yesterday’s youth duet between Venera and Lindi coz they’re much older, but apart from that it’s another mainstream love ballad and they’re both deep vocalists, not really powerful. This is boring in almost every aspect. Looks like I’ll have a duet last for both nights…

  2. And vocal gymnastics. All ESC boxes were ticked here.

  3. Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodran Tolaj: That’s just bad.Generic and dated…One of the worst we’ve seen in both nights…

  4. “Jam larg” – Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodran Tolaj: Another ballad (surprise). And this one is the most boring and uninteresting so far. The song totally fails to catch my interest. But it’s a good orchestration, no doubt. All songs sound better with live orchestra. Bring it back! (5/12)

  5. they’re joined on stage by Myfarete Laze and they sing together “A do vish”

  6. More commercials. They have been playing the same 5 for 2 days.

  7. 07 Saimir Braho – Grua: I do feel sad for him that he got his slot yesterday changed for no reasons (considering he has nothing to do with Na nor Orges Toce), but besides that, this is one of the most boring songs so far, he “whispers” his lyrics to make them more meaningful but in fact to hide he’s a poor vocalist, and the song just goes nowhere…

  8. Sajmir Braho: A much better ballad that gets more dynamic after the first half.A nice nostalgic melody.

  9. “Grua” – Sajmir Braho: God, this bloke’s singing style irritates me. Why all these sighings while singing. The song is a mid-tempo something that has some promising parts. With another singer, I could have liked this more. (6/12)

  10. Flaka Krelani would have been a much better choice last year.

  11. Saimir is now singing with Flaka Krelani the song “Ti ecën në shi”

  12. ok Lynx other group members are put inside the orchestra, so I guess that explains “Na” which probably features some folk musicians

  13. Last years metal band was much better from Albania.

  14. Ooooh… Lynx don’t have a great song either. Average and plain, nothing special, but easily better than most of the dull songs in this NF (and in ESC if it should win FiK). Albania definitely won’t win in 2014. I guess I want Renis Gjoka to win FiK.

  15. Lynx:Well this sounds more current but still not my cup of tea. :(
Could they go for the same more or less recipe for a second year in a row?

  16. 08 Lynx – Princesha: disappointing song from them, a modern pop rock tune that’s well executed for its genre, but it’s not quite the genre where Albania really shines and in the end it’s not even instant or remarkable, a forgettable song

  17. “Princesha” – Lynx: Really? I mean, really, don’t they have anything else than ballads or rock songs? If the last singer had an irritating voice, this group has an irritating tune. This is just that kind of Balkan pop/rock Montenegro gave us in 2007 and 2008 that I just don’t get. The worst entry this year imo. (3/12)

  18. Lynx is joined by Eneda Tarifa to sing “Ne jemi emri i vetë jetes”

  19. Well, that’s it.

My vote goes to Venera Lumani & Lindi Islami (or more accurately Venera). That was the act with the most charisma and stage presence.

Plus, ESC will be a good place for Venera to launch her career and gain experience. She can be this year’s Natalia Kelly.

    • She can be this year’s Natalia Kelly and stay in the semi…

      • LOL, starting already and we haven’t even gotten to the Albanian NF yet.

Yes, her entry will have a tough time making the semi but I see potential with Venera. She has that spark onstage that you need to make it.

In other words, if you ever start a music label, hire me to scout singers for you. You will make a fortune.

  20. the irony is that for both nights i have two “good” songs, three “average” ones and three “poor” ones, i dont think anything was awful (below 3/12 by ET’s standard rankings) but nothing deserved to be “great” (above 9/12) a very averagy year for Albania considering they usually have one or two great songs, but the live orchestra, original language and a lot of genuine respectable dispositions makes for an enjoyable show. My ranking for tonight’s songs:

02 Marjeta Billo – Ti mungon (probably the best of all the rock songs)
04 Klodian Kacani – Me ty (the big balkan ballad, but this needs to be revamped)

05 Frederik Ndoci – Një ditë shprese (melancholic, nice trumpet but quickly boring)
01 Na – Jehona (needs a much stronger performer)
03 Xhejsi Jorgaqi – Ëndërrat janë ëndërra (straight forward rock tune that would get lost in esc)

08 Lynx – Princesha (disappointing mainstream pop rock)
07 Saimir Braho – Grua (he sighs and whispers a very boring tune)
06 Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodran Tolaj – Jam larg (old fashioned mainstream ballad without any memorable tune)

  21. I think my favorites for tonight were Marjeta Billo&Klodian Kacani.A weak year for FiK,i’m afraid.

  22. Marjeta and Klodian were my favourites in this semi. I also liked what I heard from Xhejsi, but I missed too much to be able to make a fair judgement of it. From last semi, I liked Hersi best, but I missed some entries there too.

  23. Before rewatching them all tomorrow night, this is my ranking of the 16 entries:

Herciana Matmuja – Zemërimi i një nate
    Luiz Ejlli – Kthehu
    Marjeta Billo – Ti mungon
    Klodian Kacani – Me ty

Entela Zhula & Edmond Mancaku – Vetëm për ty
    Blerina Braka – Mikja ime
Frederik Ndoci – Një ditë shprese
    Rezarta Smaja – Në zemër
    Na – Jehonas
Xhejsi Jorgaqi – Ëndërrat janë ëndërra

    Renis Gjoka – Mjegulla
Xhejn & Enxhi Kumrija – Kur qielli qan
    Lynx – Princesha
Venera Lumani & Lindi Islami – Natë e pare
    Saimir Braho – Grua
Besiana Mehmeti & Shkodran Tolaj – Jam larg

  24. I have less than 24 hours to begin the marketing campaign. Not much time but I think I can get a couple of converts to join my on my mission.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfDj-Tk0M84

    • I read earlier that your angel will be the hostess of this year’s music awards in Estonia. No need to campaign for Venera and her song. She stands no chance, anyway… :)

      • I will just focus on the positives of your post. The Estonian final, which was awesome to begin with, just reached legendary status.

        • She won’t be hosting the Estonian final but the Estonian music awards taking place on January 30.Here is the link.I hope your command of Estonian will help you with it. http://menu.err.ee/uudised/muusika/36e91d7e-c056-46ad-8856-39a5cdaf1926

          • You don’t need to understand Estonian. The photo alone tells the story. What’s the Estonian word for dimples i wonder?

To answer your question from earlier, no her looks have nothing to do with it.

I bet she receives the award for best Estonian singer of all time that evening.

            • Or she may just present the awards.

            • I guess we will all find out together on Thursday, 30 January 2014.

Now that I think of it, I bet she is there so they can announce that the Estonian NF will be cancelled next year and they will award her the spot instead. LOL, I can dream, can’t I?

            • Sure, why not?As long as you can separate reality from dreams,it’s fine. ;)

            • It might be a dream, but it is a great idea. One of my best ever esc related ideas if I do say so myself.

Let’s make it happen. I’m sure I have your 100% support.

            • Hold on though. Before we turn our attention to Estonia we still have unfinished business in Albania

Since you are the president of the Venus fan club (her name means Venus in Russian I just found out, and it fits, as her talent is from another world) we need your focus to be there for now.

            • Really?Wel,since i’m the president of her fan club i made a decision. Her entry this year is average and winning FiK would harm her career. So,she should avoid winning,at all costs.Better luck next time! ;)

            • It’s not her, it’s her duet partner that drags her down. I bet he is from mars, that is why they don’t fit well together.

Just a world of warning though: if you keep talking like this, the members will have to take a vote to elect a new president.

  25. Thanks for the comments, everyone. It was fun reading this thread. :)

    See/Read you tomorrow night!

Good luck Albania! Judging on the comments here, you will need it … :(
