zlata_ognevichUkraine – Our featured artist of today is Zlata Ognevich of the Ukraine. It was third time lucky for Zata this year after 2 unsuccessful years of etering the Ukraine final. Zlata was born on 12th January 1986 in Murmansk, in the extreme northern part of Russia. She grew up in the Crimean city of Sudak, in the south of Ukraine. Read more about her here. (more…)

ukraineUkraineZlata Ognevich has released the official dance remix of her Eurovision Song Contest entry ‘Gravity‘. The dance remix is recorded partially in the language Nakatonka, which was apparently used in the very original version of the song. Listen to the remix here. There is a club edit as well as a radio edit. You can download the various versions on SoundCloud here.

ukraineUkraine -  Ukraine have this evening released the official video of their song ‘Gravity’. The fantasy based video with lots of special effects,including unicorns, butterflies and mystical worlds, backs up a revamped version of the song which will be performed by Zlata Ognevich in May. Tonight: Ukraine’s National Final!

Ukraine - It was already known by Ukrainian broadcaster NTU that the National Final to select the country’s entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest would be held in December this year, but now the date of December 23rd has been confirmed. Ukraine: Gaitana Subjected to Racism

UkraineUkraine – The Ukraine’s representatitve, Gaitana, has sadly been subjected to racist comments by far-right in her country. According to the Global Spin blog which can be found here, Yuriy Syrotyuk, a high-ranking member of the right-wing ultranationalist Svoboda (Freedom) Party made the comments to the Kyiv Post. He said Gaitana, who has a Congolese father, “ is not an organic representative of the Ukrainian culture.”

Ukraine – The national final has just ended in Kiev and Gaitana has been chosen as the representative for Eurovision 2012 with “Be My Guest“. 21 acts fought it out, with voting split 50-50 between public and jury. Public voting was by SMS, with only one vote per phone. Anggun, France’s representative and SinPlus, Switzerland’s, both performed on the show. (more…)

Ukraine: Matias Withdrawn from Final

Ukraine – The final line-up for Ukraine’s national final has been announced and Matias has been disqualified. His producer, Vlad Bahinskyj, was among the jury panel during the internal pre-selection. Max Baskih went through to the final as the wildcard, after receiving most votes on the Internet. The final will take place on Saturday at 11.30am (CET), and you can watch it on Eurovision.tv. Ukraine: 20 Finalists Revealed

  Ukraine – The Ukrainian national broadcaster has revealed 20 songs that will compete in the country’s selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. The national final will be held on February 18. Another two acts will be added to the list through wildcards.   Ukraine – Renata Shtifel is hoping to represent the Ukraine at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2012 after she has submitted the song “Malaja” for the Ukrainian national broadcaster’s national selection. The lyrics were written by Alyosha, who represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The composition is by Vadim Lisitsa, who also produced Alyosha’s Eurovision entry “Sweet people”. Ukraine: 21 Acts to Compete in National Final

  Ukraine – The Ukrainian national broadcaster NTU has revealed that a total of twenty-one acts will compete in the country’s national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. 19 acts will be selected by a jury of experts out of the submissions made to NTU. One place is reserved for the winner of Inter TV Channel’s Show Number 1 and he last place will be filled by the winner of a web contest which will be hosted by the new Ukrainian social network say.tv.   Ukraine – One of the countries notorious for their chaotic selection process, has revealed its plans for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 today: Ukraine. Artists interested in representing the Eastern European country in Baku can submit their entries to the Ukrainian national broadcaster until December 25. A panel of music experts will then select the semi-finalists. 20 artists will compete for a place in the final, 19 places are filled by artists chosen by the judges and the 20th place will be filled by an artist selected through Inter Channel’s show Number 1. Ukraine – After voting fraud allegations against the winner of the Ukrainian national final Mika Newton, the Ukrainian broadcaster NTU decided to hold another national final this Thursday with the Top 3 from the original one: Zlata Ognevich, Mika Newton and Jamala. Yesterday Jamala decided not to participate in the new selection and today Zlata Ognevich also announced that she has no intention of participating again, which leaves us with Mika Newton. (more…)

Ukraine – The drama in Ukraine continues as Jamala announced today that she will not be taking part in the second national final this Thursday. Due to voting fraud allegations against the winner Mika Newton, NTU, the Ukrainian national broadcaster, had decided to hold another national final with the Top3 of the previous one: Jamala, Mika Newton and Zlata Ognevich. Ukraine - It seems like things haven’t changed over the last year. The results of the national final last Saturday, in which Mika Newton was selected as the Ukrainian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 were annulled. Ukraine – This Saturday Mika Newton was surprisingly chosen as Ukraine’s Eurovision representative – A decision which has caused a major upheaval. Ukraine sends “Mika Newton – Angel” to Eurovision

Ukraine – The results are coming in minute by minute now. Ukrainians decided that Mika Newton should be the artist representing their country in Germany with the ballad “Angel”. Mika Newton won all types of voting: SMS, televote, jury and internet votes all favoured the young singer. The second place went to Zlata Ognevich , while the big favourite Jamala came 3rd. Newton is a Ukrainian singer from the city of Burshtyn. She leads a rock band whose other members are known as Uncle Fe, Snow, Andrew and “Loco” Vitalii. Their debut album Anomaliya (Anomaly) was released in 2005. (more…)

Ukraine Decides – National Final in Kiev

Ukraine – After the longest selection process of the 2011 season, Ukraine will finally decide whom to send to Germany. 19 artists will compete for the Ukrainian ticket to Düsseldorf. Anastasia Prikhodko who represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, as well as several past national final entrants, will be returning to the national final stage. Jamala Releases Preview Video of Smile

Ukraine - Jamala, one of the finalists of this year’s Ukrainian Eurovision selection has just released her preview video for her entry “Smile”. I know that she has not won yet and that it is a bit partial to give her this exposure, but I just liked the sparkling creativity of the song and the video does not disappoint either. Ukraine: Withdrawal due to financial troubles?

Ukraine – There were rumors published by ESCToday today that stated that the Ukraine might have to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest due to financial issues between the EBU and the national broadcaster NTU. The channel has to pay 2 million euro of debt to the European Broadcasting Union, which has threatened to exclude the country from international events, such as the Eurovision Song Contest. (more…)

Ukraine – Another 5 acts qualified from the third semi-final in Ukraine tonight. The big Ukrainian final will be held February 27. Two of my personal favourites qualified: Jamala with her unconventional Jodl-Amy Winehouse song “Smile” and Daria Medova with the very conventional ballad  “Infinity”. Ukraine: 5 more qualify from semi-final 2

Ukraine – The second semi-final has just ended in Ukraine and 5 more lucky qualifiers have been chosen. 21 competitors were already chosen in prequalification rounds that were initially supposed to be the semi-finals. Now NTU has added another three semi-final to the selection process for Düsseldorf to reduce the finalists to 15. Tonight 8 acts competed and 5 were chosen by a jury of experts. Ukraine: NTU changes selection process

Ukraine -Apparently NTU, the Ukrainian national broadcaster, has changed its selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The shows that have been broadcast the last couple of Sundays and which were supposed to be semi-finals have now been turned into quarter-finals. The first actual semi-final was broadcast today. Tonight: Another show in Ukraine

Ukraine – Last week the last qualification round of the Ukrainian selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf was aired. Apparently there will be another show tonight. There is no information about the content of the show. They could reveal the winners of the televoting: In each semi-final 7 acts competed and 3 qualified by means of jury. Another one will qualify through televoting, but these acts have not been disclosed yet. It may also be the first of 3 semi-finals (More probable). (more…)

The last four weeks 12 artists already qualified from the first four semi-finals and tonight another 6 competed (Masha Sobko had withdrawn before the show). From every semi-final three competitors qualified by means of jury voting and one participant will qualify by televoting.
