Portugal – The 19th Eurovision Song Contest 1974 in Brighton was an important one in every respect. Not only did four young Swedes start their worldwide career there, which made them the most successful band Eurovision ever “produced”, but another song became important in a political sense. Portugal: Festival Da Canção Chooses Filipa Sousa for Eurovision

Portugal – The Festival Da Canção reached its conclusion tonight with Filipa Sousa being chosen to go to Azerbaijan. The song is called “Vida Minha“ (My Life). Portugal will take part in semi-final 2 on the 22nd of May. The lengthy voting system saw all 20 Portugese regions voting. Portugal: The 12 Artists of Festival Da Canção 2012

Portugal – RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster, announced who the 12 competitors are taking part of Festival da Canção 2012, and the songwriters will be revealed in the next days. Portugal – The names of the 12 acts that have been chosen for Festival da Canção 2012 have today been announced by the Portugese national broadcaster RTP. There were over 400 applications to the festival and two large auditions which were held in Lisbon and Porto. There are also 5 artists on the reserve list, in case any acts withdraw or are disqualified. The composers for the songs have not been announced yet. Portugal: Over 400 Submissions for Festival Da Canção

Portugal – The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has announced that over 400 songs have been submitted for this year’s “Festival da Canção”. The submission deadline for the country’s 2012 selection for the Eurovision Song Contest ended on Saturday. The newcomers among the submissions will have to sing their songs in front of a special jury behind closed doors in the next couple of days. Portugal Confirms Participation: Festival da Canção in March

Portugal – OGAE Portugal report on their website that a reliable source at the Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has told them that Portugal will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and will determine its candidate through a national final to be held in March. The Portuguese participation had been in doubt as the national broadcaster RTP is currently being privatized and it was unclear whether the broadcasting rights of the Eurovision Song Contest would be transferred to the new private channel. EBU Supervisor: Homens Da Luta Will Not Be Disqualified

Portugal – The choice to send “Homens Da Luta” to Eurovision has caused controversy in Portugal and has prompted demands to disqualify the song due to its allegedly political lyrics. Now the supervisor of the EBU, Jon Ola Sand has told the Portuguese press that the song will most probably not be disqualified. Sand said that the matter will be discussed during the Heads of Delegation meeting in Düsseldorf this Monday and added that the result of these talks will probably be the “qualification” of the song “A Luta É Alegria”. Discuss: Is Homens Da Luta’s Entry for Portugal Too Political?

Portugal – Last Saturday Portugal chose “Homens Da Luta” as their representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 and since then a storm of protests against and of support for the song has taken Portuguese internet forums. Some people suggest, that the song “A Luta é Alegria” will probably be disqualified due to its “political message”. The EBU will take a decision on May 14 and 15 during the Heads of Delegations meeting in Düsseldorf. I personally do not see enough reasons for a disqualification due to political lyrics. (more…)

Portugal – After an excruciatingly long national final, Portugal has chosen Homens Da Luta as their representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. After all 20 juries, from the Portuguese regions, had attributed points to their favourites Homnes Da Luta were far from winning the competition (6 points from the juries), but the televote largely favoured them. In the combined result they won with a margin of just one point in front of Nuno Norte and his song “São os Barcos de Lisboa”. (more…)

Portugal – Tonight, Portugal will decide whom to send to the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf. Twelve artist will compete for the right to fly the Portuguese flag in Düsseldorf next May. The winner will be decided by a combination of 50% televotes and 50% jury votes. The host is Silvia Alberto, for the fourth year in a row. She will be joined by Joana Teles. Netherlands – The 3Js, the Dutch representatives at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will probably sing their entry “Je vecht nooit alleen” (I don’t fight alone”) in its English version.
Armenia - Gohar Gasparyan,the Armenian Head of Delegation has told OGAE Armenia that the Armenian national final, originally scheduled for February 19th might be postponed. The 4 entries that the internally selected artist Emmy will perform in the national final will be disclosed on February 10.
Azerbaijan – Aaand it has happened again: Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster IctimaiTV has announced a change of the date for the national final. The Azeri entry will be chosen out of 5 competitors on February 11. Let’s hope this will be the final change of the selection process in the Caucasian country.

Portugal – The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has announced the 12 finalists of their national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. In the online voting the lucky qualifiers got the most votes. Portugal: Online voting starts + disqualification

Portugal – Sometimes you have to ask yourself, why television channels do not check for violations of the rules before they publish participant lists for their national selections. RTP obviously didn’t and so they had to disqualify a song after the online voting had already started. “Amor cruzado” by Miguel Gizza has been disqualified due to an infringement of the rules by RTP. Portugal – The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has revealed the 24 participants of the online voting for their national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. 12 of the 24 songs will participate in the national final to be held on March 5, in Lisbon. Among the participating composers are Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger. The German duo really seems to seek revenge on Stefan Raab, as they also have entered a song into the Maltese selection. Portugal - RTP has just revealed the rules and the date of “Festival da Canção”, which is traditionally their national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. The final will be broadcast on March 5. Interested artists may submit their propositions until January 16. A jury will select 20 to 24 songs out of this pool of submissions which the Portuguese people can then vote on online. 12 songs will then qualify for the televised national final. The voting is as always 50% public and 50% jury vote. The juries are divided into 20 regional panels. The venue of the event will be the Teatro Camões in Lisbon. (more…)
Portugal – oikotimes.com reports today that Portugal will once again use the Festival da Canção as their selection method for the Eurovision Song Contest. Portuguese television RTP will accept submissions until mid January on their website. Artists and authors must be of Portuguese citizenship, while the composer may be a foreigner. An expert jury will then select 20 to 24 songs out of the pool of submission. Eurovision fans will then have the chance to vote for their favourites. Some of the votes of the National Juries of this year’s Eurovision are starting to pour in. We now have the information for Romania, Turkey and Portugal.
They seem to indicate that winner Lena from Germany got more points from the televoters and Tom Dice’s great place for Belgium relied mostly on jury votes, but see for yourself: (more…)
