netherlandsThe Netherlands – The Netherlands has confirmed it will participate at ESC 2014.  TROS’s contract ran out this year and there were fears participation would cease. Current broadcaster TROS and Junior Eurovision broadcaster AVRO will now join forces (after Dutch Government pressure) and will continue participating in Eurovision under their new name AvroTros. A Nationaal Songfestival final may be the possible format.

AnoukThe Netherlands – Many Eurovision fans had spent most of the day laughing at videos that had emerged of a supposedly very drunk Anouk. She posted a video clip on her Twitter saying she was never drinking again and won lots of new fans with her fun-filled partying. It has now been has revealed that it was a PR stunt for Centraal Beheer! (more…)

AnoukNetherlands – A YouTube clip of Anouk, performing live, shows her singing just under a minute of her Eurovision entry ‘Birds’ a cappella. netherlandsNetherlands – It has been announced today on the Dutch website songfestivalweblog.nl, that the song that will be sung by Anouk for The Netherlands in Malmö is titled ‘Birds Falling Down’. Anouk’s producer, Tore Johansson has also alledgedly told a Swedish newspaper, Sydsvenskan, “It is nice and big, but has absolutely no chance for victory. It is written to be good, not to win”! Netherlands: TROS and Anouk on Speaking Terms Again

  Netherlands – Chaos in the Netherlands: The popular television producer John de Mol has announced his withdrawal from the Dutch national selection this year, which had been confirmed just weeks ago. De Mol and his production company Talpa were apparently put off by the Dutch Eurovision broadcaster TROS’ rejection of one of the biggest stars in Dutch music, Anouk. (more…)

Netherlands: Six Rounds for Nationaal Songfestival 2013

  Netherlands -The Dutch website shownieuws.nl reports that the director of the Dutch Eurovision broadcaster TROS, Peter Kuipers has informed them that the 2013 Dutch national final for the Eurovision Song Contest will consist of six rounds. A six round national final would put the Netherlands in the same category as Sweden with their immensely popular Melodifestivalen. Whether the idea will be embraced by the Dutch television viewers remains to be seen. (more…)

  Netherlands – One of the biggest stars in the Netherlands has revealed today that she was rejected by the Dutch Eurovision broadcaster TROS. Through her twitter account, Anouk told her followers that she had approached TROS this year to represent the Netherlands in Sweden and that she has a “killer song” ready. Netherlands: John de Mol Continues Cooperation

  Netherlands – The partnership between John de Mol’s production company Talpa and the Dutch broadcaster TROS concerning the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest will probably continue in 2013. Successful television produced John de Mol affirmed on RTL 4 his will to organize the Dutch selection again next year.  He said:  “we’re going to try again in 2013.“  He did not reveal any details on the procedure and TROS has not yet confirmed the partnership. The Netherlands: Joan Franka Chosen for Baku

The NetherlandsJoan Franka was crowned winner of the Nationaal Song Festival in the Netherlands yesterday and will now represent her country in Baku. Joan beat off two other superfinalists; Pearl Jozefzoon  and Ivan Peroti, dressed up as a Native American with a guitar and singing ‘You and Me‘. (more…)

The Netherlands – Tonight will see The Netherlands decide on their representative for Baku. There are 6 acts remaining in the final, and they will go head to head in three pairs in ‘duels’. The Netherlands: Duels Announced

The Netherlands – The six acts left in the Netherlands’ selection process have today been drawn against each other in three ‘duels’. The Nationaal Songfestival takes place next Sunday February 26th at 20:20 (CET), and will be shown on the RTL4 show Life4you. In the  ‘superfinal’ a jury and the Dutch viewers will decide which act will go to Baku. (more…)

  Podcast – Two presenters from the Australian radio station, JOY 94.9: Andrew Bell & Hikaru Freeman have embarked on an ambitious project in the run up to Eurovision 2012.   Netherlands – The euro crisis does not seem to be as pressing in the Netherlands as it is in other European countries as Socialist MP Jasper van Dijk is planning to raise the issue of the Dutch selection method for Eurovision in parliament. Mr. van Dijk thinks that the Nationaal Songfestival has ‘been hijacked‘ by television producer John de Mol.   Netherlands – According to several Dutch media, the six candidates for the Nationaal Songfestival 2012 will almost all have a connection to a show of John de Mol. Mol is one of the most successful television producers on the planet and has taken responsibility for the Dutch national final this year. His casting show “The Voice of..” is the biggest success of the television season in many countries. Among the candidates rumored to be among the competitors for the Dutch ticket are Kim de Boer and Pearl Jozefzoon who came second and third respectively in the first edition of “The Voice of Holland“.   Netherlands- The Dutch national broadcaster will reveal the six entries of their national final next Thursday in a press conference. The entries were selected by a jury of experts out of 491 submission. This year English and Dutch songs were part of the selection. In 2010 and 2011 only Dutch-language songs were allowed to be entered. (more…)

Netherlands: Announcement Pushed Back

  Netherlands – The Dutch national broadcaster TROS has announced today that the participants in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will be announced on January 5. Originally the competitors were supposed to be revealed in the “first weeks of December”. According to TROS the amount of entries submitted went way beyond what they expected and in order to assess all the songs thoroughly more time would be needed.   Netherlands – The Dutch broadcaster TROS has told Eurovision website ESCxtra, that they will start to announce the participants of the Dutch national final in the first two weeks of December. TROS also told the website that six to eight participants will compete for the Dutch ticket to Baku. This year English and Dutch songs will be part of the selection. ESC History: First song ever performed on Eurovision

ESC History – Did you know that the first song ever performed at a Eurovision Song Contest was “De vogels van Holland” by Jetty Pearl from the Netherlands? It was 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland, when 7 countries started the tradition that today is one of the biggest media events each year. Just this first year each participating country entered 2 songs into the competition. The winner was of course Lys Assia, who adorns the logo of this series.

Our Interview With The 3JS

Eurovision 2011 – The new videos and revamped versions are pouring in right before the Heads of Delegations meeting in Düsseldorf this Monday. Hungary has tonight revealed its official preview video (which I can’t see in Germany), Croatia has revealed a new English version of the song “Lahor” which is entitled “Celebrate”. The initial title “Break A Lag” has thus been changed for obvious reasons. The Netherlands have also released the English version of their entry called “Never alone“. Today with news from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Finland, the Netherlands and Portugal

Netherlands – The 3Js, the Dutch representatives at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will probably sing their entry “Je vecht nooit alleen” (I don’t fight alone”) in its English version.

Armenia - Gohar Gasparyan,the Armenian Head of Delegation has told OGAE Armenia that the Armenian national final, originally scheduled for February 19th might be postponed. The 4 entries that the internally selected artist Emmy will perform in the national final will be disclosed on February 10.

Azerbaijan – Aaand it has happened again: Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster IctimaiTV has announced a change of the date for the national final. The Azeri entry will be chosen out of 5 competitors on February 11. Let’s hope this will be the final change of the selection process in the Caucasian country.

3JS with ‘Je Vecht Nooit Alleen’ to Düsseldorf

Netherlands – The Dutch song selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 has just ended. The internally selected band “The 3JS” performed 5 self-penned songs in Dutch. “Je Vecht Nooit Alleen” (You do not fight alone) was chosen as the Dutch entry at the contest. The decision was taken by 50% jury and 50% televote. The jury prefered “Je Vecht Nooit Alleen” and over 63% of the televoters agreed. Thus Je vecht nooit alleen emerged victorious in a clear decision. Listen to the song: (more…)

Tonight: National Final in the Netherlands

Netherlands – Apart from Lena, the 3Js were the first confirmed entry of the 2011 Eurovision season. After tonight’s Dutch national final we will finally know the song that the band will perform in the second semi-final in Düsseldorf. The trio will perform 5 self-penned songs which are all in Dutch. Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau will host the show and Daniël Dekker, Hind (ESC 08), René Froger (ESC 09), Eric van Tijn and  Annemieke Schollaardt will be the jury for tonight. One of these songs will be selected by the jury and the Dutch public to represent them in Germany: (more…)
