Monaco: Dampned Expectations

  Monaco – A comeback of Monaco to the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 seems very unlikely after Phil Bosco, head of delegation of the national broadcaster TMC said that the costs to participate were simply to high to stem for the small channel. Neither the Monegasque government nor the shareholder of the channel, the French private channel TF1, are not willing to subsidise a Eurovision participation of the principality. (more…)

Monaco: Talks About a Return to Eurovision?

  Monaco – According to unconfirmed rumors that the Czech Eurovision website eurosong.cz reports today, the national broadcaster of Monaco, TMC is in talks with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) about a possible return of the principality at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 to be held in Azerbaijan. Since its withdrawal in 2006 Monaco did not express or show a will to return to the contest. Monaco had been a part of the contest from 1959 to 1979 (winning in 1971) and from 2004 to 2006. Eurovision 2011 – This year there were more rumors and speculations about possible returns, debuts and withdrawals than in any other year. There were also more (predominantly positive) surprises concerning the list of participating nations. In total 42 countries (nothing official yet) will compete for the ‘Grand Prix’ in Düsseldorf next May. An official list of the participating countries is expected to be released after January 7, when the EBU will resume its work after the Christmas break. Here is what we know so far: (more…)
