Eurovision 2011 – This year there were more rumors and speculations about possible returns, debuts and withdrawals than in any other year. There were also more (predominantly positive) surprises concerning the list of participating nations. In total 42 countries (nothing official yet) will compete for the ‘Grand Prix’ in Düsseldorf next May. An official list of the participating countries is expected to be released after January 7, when the EBU will resume its work after the Christmas break. Here is what we know so far: (more…)

Our interview with Swiss finalist Ilira

Switzerland – She is one of the favourites to win the Swiss national final this Saturday and thus to represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. With the band “The Colors” she entered the song home into the competition, which is performed in Albanian and Swiss German. The combo will compete with 11 other acts for the honor to represent the mountainous country this Saturday in Kreuzlingen. Switzerland will thus be the first country to choose their song. Belgium – Sandra Kim, Belgium’s only Eurovision winner to date, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her win in 1986 in Norway. She has released a new version of the video of “J’aime la vie” showing her in 1986 and today. You can watch the video here. Am I the only one who thinks she looks better now?

Germany 1 – Mannheim will not be the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Just recently, the German capital of Pop had considered a bid to host the event. Now the major  announced that the only venue capable of hosting the event has been booked (more…)
