Azerbaijan – Today, the sixth round of the Azerbaijani national selection for Eurovision 2012 ended. Adil Bakhishli was the chosen one this week, out of the eight contestans. He performed “Lane Moje“, originally performed by Zeljko Joksimovic in Eurovision 2004. You can check his performance for Zeljko’s song here. Denmark: OGAE President Calls for Boycott of Eurovision 2012

OGAE Denmark - Eurovisionary reports, that the newly elected president of OGAE Denmark has called for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 due to human rights violations related to the construction of the 2012 venue “Baku Crystal Hall“. Johann Sørensen sent out a press release suggesting to the Danish national broadcaster DRK and other broadcasters to boycott the event. The EBU has denied that there is a link between the demolitions reported by the BBC and the Eurovision Song Contest. (more…)

Azerbaijan – Azerbaijan’s win at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest was a joyous occasion for almost all Azeris. Hundreds of families living in the center of Baku may already curse their countries’ victory as they are evicted from their homes to make place for the new hall that is being built in Baku for the hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. Eurovision 2012: Venue Is Taking Shape

Azerbaijan- The proposed venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, the Baku Crystal Hall is beginning to take shape after months of building the fundamentals and after concerns began to be raised that the hall would not be finished for the big event in May. On August 2,2011 the main agreement was signed with Alpine Bau Deutschland AG, venue for construction was selected and necessary preparation works for construction had been started in this area. Azerbaijan: Concerns About Energy Supply and Cash Flow During Eurovision

Azerbaijan – Due to concerns stated by several newspapers and websites, the Azeri government seems to deem it necessary to soothe the worries. The Azeri ministry of energy and the energy corporation OJSC Azernerji Industry have declared that the energy supply during the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest will be sufficient to meet the demands of the venue and the entire city. The contest will have an individual energy supply through generators and thus not be dependent on the local energy networks. (more…)

Switzerland: Amnesty Puts Pressure on SF

Switzerland – The fact that next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Azerbaijan is a throne in the side of Amnesty International. Just recently they published a report about the human rights violations of the Azeri government. The Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger reports today, that the Swiss subdivision of the organization has caused a predicament for the Swiss national broadcaster SF. They sent buttons saying “Free me” to all the participants of the national final and asked them to wear them during the televised show on December 10. (more…)

Azerbaijan – Natig Abdullayev, the head of the music and entertainment department at Ictimai TV, has revealed that the first show of the Azeri selection for Baku will be broadcast this Monday. Just like last year 8 heats will be held that span an entire week (Monday to Friday). The artists in each heat will perform songs in keeping with the motto of each evening (Western pop, Eurovision songs, Azeri music e.t.c). Editorial – Amidst a packed out stadium in Germany, and with millions of viewers watching from across the continent, Eldar and Nikki took the stage once again to perform their winning song. They’d done it! Beating off competition from 24 other musical acts, Europe had voted them their winner with a total of 224 points, and now, Eldar and Nikki were bringing the contest home to Azerbaijan, and the joy of such an achievement beamed from them as they began the song. Azerbaijan – The host country for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will use a method similar to their previous one for selecting the right artist(s). 72 performers were selected and as of Monday 28 November, each week in 5 tv-shows to be broadcasted weekdays, 1 winner will be chosen out of 9 artists a week, although this wasn’t always the case last year, and likely it won’t be for this year either. Azerbaijan – Amnesty International severely criticized the Azerbaijani government in a report released today, due to its record of human rights violations and the overwhelming control the government of the Eurovision host country exercises over the press. The organisation especially criticizes the violent suppression of democratic protests in April and May. Facebook users have even been called “mentally ill” and have been arrested for criticizing the government in their posts. (more…)
Azerbaijan – Azerbaijan was the last country to reveal its Eurovision entry this year just one day before the Heads of Delegation meeting, but they did so with a well-crafted video clip. Apparently that clip was never supposed to be the official video for “Running Scared”. Azerbaijan – According to escdaily.com the Azeri representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 have changed their name again. Initially they had changed their name to “Ell&Nikki” to appeal more to international viewers. Now they have apparently changed their name back to “Eldar and Nigar”. The duo will represent the Caucasian country in Düsseldorf with the RnB ballad “Running scared” (more…)

Azerbaijan – eurovision.tv has just uploaded the Azeri entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal, who had been chosen in a month-long selection process earlier this year, will represent the Caucasian country in Germany. They will perform under the name to Ell&Nikki in Düsseldorf to sound more international. Azerbaijan - Over the entire Eurovision season the Azeri national broadcaster Ictimai TV has not appeared to be very organized in any way. First they confused everyone by announcing and cancelling shows and then put a cherry on the cake of confusion, when announcing two competitors in their national final as winners: Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal will now represent Azerbaijan as a duet. Azerbaijan – The people of Azerbaijan have taken their decision (or the officials of Ictimai TV ?) : Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal will represent the “Land of fire” in Düsseldorf singing a duet. Initially the aim of the final had been to select the singer for Azerbaijan out of the 5 artists selected in previous Heats. Now 2 of them have been declared winners. At the end of the show they performed a duet of the UK’s 2009 entry “It’s my time” and changed the lyrics slightly to “It’s our time”. Ictimai TV Chaos: Anna Rossinelli Stranded

Azerbaijan -The Swiss representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 Anna Rossinelli, who is set to perform in the Azeri national final tonight, almost did not make it there. Due to different kinds of visa difficulties due to omissions by the Azeri national broadcaster Ictimai TV. According to SF, Rossinelli and her band were on their way to Azerbaijan on Thursday. At a stopover in Istanbul, the first problems occurred: “The problem was, that the Azeri officials insured me that they would take care of the visa”. The broadcaster had not done that and thus Rossinelli did not have a valid visa. (more…)

Azerbaijan has had quite a few surprises in the bag for us Eurovision fans. Tonight the month-long selection process to find the Azeri representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf will come to an end. 5 artists will compete for the right to fly the Azeri flag in Germany. Azerbaijan – Aaand it has happened again: Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster IctimaiTV has announced a change of the date for the national final. The Azeri entry will be chosen out of 5 competitors on February 11. Let’s hope this will be the final change of the selection process in the Caucasian country.

Bulgaria – The Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT has announced the submission deadline for their selection process. The call for songs ends February 9, just 13 days before the national final. Artists and composers may send their entries in form of a CD or DVD to BNT in Sofia.
Israel – Leading up to its national final “Kdam 2011″ the Israeli broadcaster Channel 1 will air four documentaries concerning connections between Eurovision and political events in each decade of Israeli history.
