It’s in part about a nation’s cultural redemption The first ESC was 11 years & 16 days after the end of the european war. The other part of the story is about the battle for the soul of German popular culture. For years modernity went head to head with the sweet & highly sentimental schlager style. Eurovision Times – We are very proud to welcome a new member to our Writing Team: Adele from Australia! We wish her fun and success with her posts on our blog! Welcome to the Team! And let’s turn to Adele for her very first entry:
My name is Adele (no, not the singer). I am a student in Adelaide, Australia. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I LOVE Eurovision! It has to be the best thing since sliced bread! I am also a big Jedward fan (yes, I know, not another one). And Muse are a big part of my life. (more…)
Australia is one of the few countries outside of Europe that broadcasts the Eurovision Song Contest on television every year. They did it again this year and saw 19-year-old Lena from Germany win with her song “Satellite”.
It seems Australians have taken Lena into their hearts as well: The single had it’s peak at #12 in the Australian itunes charts.
Additionally the song was serviced to radio stations in Australia today and can thus expect some more promotion.
The release date of Lena’s album “My cassette player” will be released June 18th!
UPDATE: She also reached the Top 100 on the itunes charts in New Zealand (even tough the show was not broadcast there)
