Asia: ABU TV Song Festival Underway

ABUABUAs well as the previously reported ABU radio contest, a TV song festival for the Asia – Pacific area has also got underway in Korea this week. This is almost Eurovision for Asia and Australia, and will be seen by over 2 BILLION viewers eventually! Asia: Finalists of ABU Radio Song Festival Announced

  ABU – It is the closest we will get to an Asiavision Song Contest and we shall take it. The Asian pendant to the EBU, the ABU will hold a Radio Song Festival this October in Seoul. Artists from many Asian and Pacific nations were submitted for the festival by their national broadcasters.   Asiavision – We have spoken to Kenny Kihyung Bae, who is in charge of organizing a competition similar to the Eurovision Song Contest for the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union ABU. He answered our questions about the progress of the plannings and revealed that the Asian song festival will probably not be as similar to Eurovision as many expected as it will be more a “Gala event” than a competition. Asiavision: Off To a New Start

South Korea – For over 2 years news of the planning of an Asia-Pacific Song Contest have been spread by Eurovision newsites (including this one). The old project “Our Sound” by a private company was supposed to feature about 20 Asian countries and was planned for autumn last year. Our Sound never made it past the “project in the pipeline” phase and was cancelled. Now eurovision.tv reports that the Asian equivalent of the EBU, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is planning to hold a “television song festival” similar to the Eurovision Song Contest.
