Sweden – The biggest national final of the season, Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2014, today also opened its submission period for songs. The deadline for the Public Competition is the 18th September 2013, so get those entries in quickly! 32 songs will be chosen in various processes to compete in the semi-finals an final next February and March. So how does it work?
There will be a selection panel and the festival producers, both selecting half each.
Up to 15 songs, submitted as part of the Regular Contest, will be chosen by a specially selected panel. These songs must have at least one songwriter/lyricist with previously published work (both the music and the lyrics must comply with that requirement), plus at least one song by songwriters/lyricists that have not released any material in the past. This year 20% of the Regular Contest entries must have a female composer or writer too. The deadline for public entries is the 18th September 2013.
The remaining 16 entries comprise special invitations made by SVT or entries that SVT has selected from amongst the submissions. One of these songs will be the winner of Svensktoppen Nästa 2013. This is the band EKO this year.
Entries are to be submitted by uploading a sound file to svt.se between 3 and 18 September, 2013. The full rules can be found here. Make sure you upload the song to the correct site! The Regular Contest is seperate to the Pubic Contest and you cannot enter both. (Here and Here)
