Best Last Place – 90 songs have come last or shared last at the Eurovision Song Contest. Over the last weeks hundreds of our readers have voted for their favorites. Each voter submitted his personal Top 5. In the next days we will reveal your Top 15. Today, we continue with a band from Finland:
Sorry for the mix-up guys! Here is your second place!

?!?!?!
We can’t be serious!
Honestly, one of the worst Finnish entries ever.
What a mess on stage?! 4/12 and my #23/25 in the Final that year.
Probably the worst recent Finnish entry…
It is ok in studio version but was a disaster live. This song supposedly being the 2nd best last placed song ever once more proves that this ranking is a total farce. I guess that many people who voted only know post 2000 ESC. Honestly, voting without knowing all songs is unfair behaviour imo. If I hadn’t known all songs that came last, I would at least have made an effort and listened to those songs I did not know.
“…voting without knowing all songs is unfair behaviour imo. If I hadn’t known all songs that came last, I would at least have made an effort and listened to those songs I did not know.”
Exactly my thoughts Togravus
Why was that in the final?
I was right.
The song reminds me a bit of E-Type. An OK one, that unfortunately was destroyed live by a messy performance and weak vocals. I would rather have seen Riikka or even Tapani Kansa instead.
“Meren” was a masterpiece, I think it would not have made it to the final but we’d never know. Finland 2009 was butchered live, unlike some other last songs which were quite exquisite but apparently were never heard by many voters. The only oldie is, quelle surprise, from Sweden…
But that’s because no one can avoid or resist the grandeur of Monica Z.
“Meren” was beautiful. Those kind of songs are very rare and when they finally approaches, you should be prepared and catch them quickly before it’s too late. How it could miss the final is beyond me. But the Finns have made weird decisions in ESC before.
I do think that Germany 64 and Finland 65 are better 60s last places! But I was still glad at least one 60s song made it!
I agree with you. Finland 1965 was my top choice for this poll. And it’s such a pity and shame that only one song from the 60′s made it.
Well, this was expected. I like all the finnish entries of the last decade except this one. For me a deserved last place. Always reminded me a bit of DJ Bobo…Chorus is ok while the “rap” part is…well i don’t even know how to describe it…
Love this!!!
Definatley the best last placed song
So now we have the last places from the finals in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
I’m absolutely no fan of that type of music, but I don’t think it’s the worst Finnish entry. It’s still better than “Yamma Yamma” (1992) in my opinion.
Who are the “mix-up guys”?
OMG this is my favourite Finnish entry ever and my second fav of 2009! (after iceland, of course) It deserves to be #1 on the list, but oh well~ still happy
(Although I do agree the live version was a bit messed up)
Woohoooo!!!! At Least a 2nd of my Favourites in this List:)
I absolutely adore this Song. Great, that I’m not the only1:)
I even don’t think, that the Stage Show was bad. On this horrible Russian Stage, it was the only Entry, that didn’t look lost in Place. They filled this much to big Stage with only 6 People.
Of Course, it’s a Problem, when many People vote only for the newer Song. But we mustn’t forget, that we had 23 Last Places in the last 9 Years & I promise: this was the only Song from this Decade, I voted for (the other were “Venedig im Regen”, “Baby Baby” from Nicole & Hugo, “Brandenburger Tor” & “L’Imħabba”). Maybe it would be better to limit the Topics like “Best 0-Pointers”, “Best Last-Placers before/after 2004″ “Best (non-)English Last-Placer”…Those that don’t know more than 4 Songs of that Topic, had to listen to the Rest to Vote;)
I hope, this Time, we will have an Overall-Ranking again, too:)
