BSNQ: The Winner Is Anna Bergendahl – This Is My Life

Best Semi-Final Non Qualifiers – Over the last two weeks, hundreds of our readers have voted for their Top 5 Best Eurovision entries that did not make it to the final. Each voter had ten points to distribute: 5 to his favorite, 4 to the second place etc. Out of these points we calculated the ultimate Top 15 of your favorite Semi-Final non qualifiers! Your winner is SWEDEN!

The 5th of Swedish Idol 2008, Anna Bergendahl went on to participate in Melodifestivalen 2010. The odds were against her. She was not well known and her song “This Is My Life” was a folk influenced ballad. Since 1998 no balladhad actually been able to win the Swedish national final. However, Anna and her song were chosen by the Swedish public and sent to neighbouring Oslo. What followed was one of the biggest failures in Swedish Eurovision history: Anna, conceived as a small favorite, failed to qualify for the final. This marked the first time since 1976 that no Swedish entry was performed in the Eurovision final. Maybe the performance was a bit too stuffed: The Swedish delegation had brought along lights for each audience member that were supposed to create a great atmosphere in the stadium.

  1. Great entry, AMAZING lyrics, my number 2 in 2012 MF and number 1 in ESC of course..

  2. I like it better than Loreen, she is from 90s!

Thanks for your comment. :) I do not see it the same way, but I understand what you mean. It’s good to hear from the fans who voted for this song.

I just believe that the words in this song are genuinely meaningful and can be related to by anybody who cares to properly listen. I can see that her performance, (clothes, Missing guitar etc.) could be annoying, but Lena could be considered as annoying too. Of course she didn’t have to worry about the semifinal.

      Thanks for your reply

Oh what a surprise ! Probably the most dissapointing winner of the last editions of MF. My feelings on this song have their ups and downs. When it was first chosen I was terribly underwhelmed by Anna’s total lack of confidence on stage and the fact she was unable not to look stiff and nervous through the performance. Then it kind of started to grow on me and was very much impressed by her 2nd rehearsal. After that the semifinal performance came and although at the time I thought she was an underserved non qualifier I eventually came to realise how much she failed to stand out in this specific semi final. After 2+ years from the 2010 contest I can say I think this entry never really deserved to qualify and that was the wake up call for the swedes. And they proved that by providing two entries that not only did very well but were very worthy representatives of their genres. Sweden is on the right track after a very short period of losing the target and I do hope both the quality of MF and the swedish entries will continue to be as high.

Sorry, but I never got warm with that Song. Only 1 boring Ballad in a Semifinal full of boring Ballads. The Scandal of that Semifinal was, that Sieneke didn’t qualify:(

  6. Goat Market says:

It’s not a bad song, and I like that musical style, but still I think it lacks something.

To get a somewhat technical, the melody line in the chorus was a bit clumsy: The notes on “no one else” are too much the same as on “this is my…”. But then, the melody line in the chorus of the Cypriot entry of the same year was even more clumsy (especially the line “tell me about your feelings”), and that song went through…

  7. Storm says:

It’s pleasant song, but just because it was from Sweden, it doesn’t make it the “Best act not to qualify for the finals”. Anyway, project was nice and very entertaining in these hot summer days :)

  8. Duff says:

I’m not too fond of this one. It’s like Sweden took a Denmark/Finland approach to Eurovision. It’s not Sweden-esque. Still think NL 2012 should be on the list somewhere.

  9. billy says:

Come on, this is one of the best swedish entry in my opinion
it’s not your typical schlagar, it has got emotions, and anna got a unique voice
