Best Semi-Final Non Qualifiers– Over the last two weeks, hundreds of our readers have voted for their Top 5 Best Eurovision entries that did not make it to the final. Each voter had ten points to distribute: 5 to his favorite, 4 to the second place etc. Out of these points we calculated the ultimate Top 15 of your favorite Semi-Final non qualifiers! You can see the other places and our other rankings here! Your place 4 goes to Andorra!
In 2007, Andorra sent the band Anonymous. They performed a punk rock song called “Salvem el món” (“Let’s Save the World”). In the song, the lead singer talks about his disbelief at the state of the world and criticizes the egoism of humanity. He calls upon everyone to unite and to try to improve the world. The song was performed in Catalonian with the chorus in English. The 12th place is still Andorra’s best result in the contest to date. After the contest, the song achieved some success on the Spanish charts.

Cool! After Estonia 2010 making the top 5 made very happy, I was also hopping Andorra 2007 would be in. Why? Because it’s by far the best Andorran esc entry, the closest to make it to the final (12th back when it was only one semi and only eastern european friendly votes making it to the final), and in my top 5 of 2007, the only year Andorra is in my top 10 alltogether. Apart from some shaky vocals here and thre (typical for poprock boyband), the song was super fresh, cool and came out as professional regardless the singers’ low experiences! Great to see it in the top 5 here!
Who for the top 3? People say Slovakia 2010 and Sweden 2010 are huge favorites for the top 2 as they are big fans favorite who shocked by failing to qualify. Maybe… but then who for the third spot?
OMG Slovakia 2010 is sooo shitty! :SA
I’m not agreeing with these two either, but there must b for every taste in the list and most of the songs I voted for are in here (Estonia 2010, Slovenia 2005, Andorra 2007…) so it’s fair others are too and Sweden 2010 regardless of what I think is a clear fans favorite that barely missed. Not seeing it as the BSNQ winner would shock me! Slovakia 2010 is indeed not a song I like at all. I thought Slovakia was more robbed in 2009 they so did not deserve to be so low!
I think they deserved even lower, that nightmare of outfits, dancing trees and completely lost girl who can’t sing! YUCK! :/
Maybe Hind from The Netherlands…
wow !!! So pleasant to see this song here, although I think it deserves to be higher
It was my #1 for this top and my personal winner in 2007
YAY, all 5 songs I voted for made it into the top 15.
I am pleasantly surprised to see Andorra 2007 so high on this list. Morgan has described this song very well and I agree that it should have finished in the top 5 in 2007. Next to 2005 the best entry from Andorra. Personally, I like all their entries, except ‘Casanova’ of course … although I admit that Gisela probably had the best live vocals of all Andorran representatives.
Top 3: Slovakia 2010- Slovenia 2012- and finally SWEDEN 2010.
The blonde cute swedish princess is going to win this, be aware ( not beacause of my vote honestly)
Bland high school band pop/rock. I was surprised to see in the upper half of the semi-final (means under the two-semifinals-system it would of qualified) even though there could be worse choices I guess.
Probably Andorra as a microstate also benefits from a small pet bonus among fans.
Being a microstate didn’t seem to help them in every other year… :/
I mean here in the fan polls.;) Average viewers, of course, will not say ‘Oh it is Andorra the microstate, their song is *nice* I shall vote for them’. I would of liked to see Andorra going through in 2005 and possibly even 2006 but I can see why these entries were not so appealing.
“Salvem El Mon” along with “Sense Tu” are my fav Andorran entries by a mile
Bring all microstates back!!!
off topic: watching the closing ceremony atm; “west end girls” …so much memories brings this song to me…
These “Stomp” guys are absolutely amazing!
Oddly enough this is my least favourite andorran entry along with 2004. I find it terribly messy and noisy really. The teenage style probably got it close to qualification which I do consider positive for a country like Andorra. Sadly it’s no much for entries like the ones in 2006 (minus the stage presentation), 2008 (same as 2006), 2009 and of course the amazing “Mirada Interior” in 2005. 2007 was such an average year in general (2nd worst in the decade IMO after 2001) that still Andorra’s entry qualifies as good enough and could claim a position in the final over things like Latvia for instance..
*no match
So far I love the closing ceremony from London.
Is it so difficult for UK to send someone like Emeli Sande to the ESC?
She is stunning!
And then coming 5th or 8th and being beaten by an undecently clad lady without voice shaking it and and a bunch of out of tune grannies warbling an 80s gay disco stomper among others?
True; but at least they could give it a real try, instead of constantly complaining for bad results
Unfortunately, I think that out of all the less favoured ESC countries Germany has found the best strategy result-wise. Find a talented no-name and give him or her a credible, decent and contemporary tune. It is not my favourite solution, not at all, but atm it is probably the only possible way to keep ESC alive in many countries. I wish that we would send our big stars (Herbert Grönemeyer etc. … or even Xaver Naidoo, although I personally do not like his songs) but I understand why all of them would say “Thank you but no!”
I know what you mean, togravus; there is this particular way of thinking esc-wise (“Thank you but no”) here in Greece, among our established artists, too. And I’m not sure I can blame them tbh
Nevertheless Greece had huge names participating in ESC. Germany’s last established singer that went to ESC was Michelle in 2001 and even she cannot compete with the fame that Rouvas, Alkaios, Anna Vissi, etc. have in Greece.
I forgot Roger Cicero but he is a niche musician.
Really nth special, I saw that even No Angels sold more albums than him!
And I saw No Angels at The Dome, I didn’t see Lena there.. and in that show was Lady Gaga, so it must be very popular!
No Angels were popular for quite some time (first German idol act) but in 2008 they have been hath-beens already. Currently the three remaining angels are unsuccessfully searching for a record contract. The ginger woman, however, which was responsible for the Bulgarian twelve points at ESC, is now a judge in the same idol show which she won eleven years ago.
PS: Simone Stelzer’s new album peaked at #3 in Austria and it is also her most successful album in Germany and Switzerland so far.
Guess who is producing her and is writing all of her songs (if you do not know yet)??
Hmmm, hmmm, maybe Ralph Siegel! I dunno really..
Do you watch The Dome, when is it held actually and how they decide who will sing and when?
* Ginger woman [...] that [...] (no offence intended)
No, David Brandes who also wrote the ESC songs for Germany in Switzerland in 2005.
Occasionally only. I think it is four times in a year, but I cannot say on which date the next show is supposed to be held.
* Germany and Switzerland
WOW I like both Germany and Switzerland 2005!
Thanks for all infos dear CC! :-** see ya!
Yes! This is my favourite song of hers
Thank you for the vid; love it.
i’m completely with you. her album is the best pop album since alanis’ “jagged little pill”. my favourite of hers is “river”
I don’t agree at all !!!This is one of my least favorite entries from Andorra along with 2005 and 2008 of course ! Noisy , predictable teenage punk rock with cheesy lyrics about saving the world…Unfortunately , Andorra hasn’t been great in esc and is among my least favorite esc nations with an average of 4,17…
The highest mark for Andorra is a 7 out of 12 in 2006
So , now that Slovenia 12 got kicked out by Andorra 07 on this list , I think we are heading for a
3)Slovakia 2010
2)Netherlands 2012
1)Sweden 2010
I hope that you are wrong. I could live with Sweden 2010 although it would probably be here for all the wrong reasons imo but both Slovakia 2010 and NL 2012 had abysmal live vocals. I hope and pray for a surprise.
I agree with Donnie on Ned 12 and I agree with togravus on Slovakia 10
As much as I agree about the weak vocals of Slovakia 10 and Netherlands 12 , I can’t help but LOVING these entries !
Slovakia 2010 gets an 8/12 while
Netherlands 2012 gets a 9/12 ( blushes )
It is very honest of you to blush.
Btw, I love NL in studio version but I simply cannot forgive the live performance.
I really like Slovakia 2010 in studio version too but I decided a long time ago only to judge on the live, and thus my reamining three slots would go to:
Andorra 2005
Netherlands 2008
Croatia 2012
Donnie, I love Ned 12 too; I even love the indian outfit
…but Slovakia 10? I never liked that entry; probably mostly because of the stage performance
You want surprise? !
What about Estonia 08 ? Or maybe The Netherlands 09 ? LOL !
LOL indeed.
I would love NL 2008, which was a mile above Armenia 2008 in the shake-it department.
NL 08 was vocally above Armenia 08 , agreed ! Song-wise it doesn’t stand a chance imo.
And since this a SONG contest , I really think that great vocals shouldn’t boost a bad song up to more than a 7 or 8/12 imo.At least that’s the strategy I follow when I give mark to each year’s entries. On the other hand a song that I love ( in studio ) shouldn’t fall beyond 7 or 8 /12 even if butchered LIVE ( fe Spain 03 , Slovakia 10 etc… )
The Eurovision IDOL preachers back on stage, hehe.
I can definately see Slovenia 12 over The Netherlands 12 in the top 3 but it remains to be seen..Not excited about Sweden 10 and I fear Slovakia 10 is unavoidable..I suppose asking for Hungary 08 or or The Netherlands 07 for example at this point is pointless really anyway..
Has George Michael aged a bit, or what?!
We all do …
Omg, my childhood obsession on stage atm!
One of the best songs ever imo is currently performed on the stage in the closing ceremony
“Wish you were” is a stunning song.
Can’t stand that entry from Andorra, totally nothing special, very far from WOW or anything normal…ppl who like it like it just because it’s Andorra! Everywhere would laugh to that wanna be boyband entry, who are they, do they have any other songs, concerts, video, album, ANYTHING???
Closing of Olympics is good, but not AMAZING, opening was VERY BAD!
I have just seen Ineta Radevica, long jumper from Latvia at stadium, YAAAAY!
@ Toggie
You should say: “BUY SOME CHEAP AND REJECTED SONG FROM USA FROM COMPOSER WHO CAN’T HAVE SUCCESS THERE SO SELLSONGS IN EUROPE FOR ESC
” rather then “give them mainstream song”, if that is keeping ESC alive, then ONE BIG LOOOOOL!
And NO comment.. :/
You know that I do not talk to you if you behave like that.
You don’t need, I just say truth, please tell me who are composers of “German” entries, from USA of course, and some unknown who don’t have any success there…I HAVE facts!
That is also discussing ESC, that is my opinion about that if you don’t talk to me on that, then you don’t discuss ESC at all, but just say your own opinion and don’t care for others’ LOL i can’t change my opinion just because I want you to talk to me LOL
But why should we talk about the USA when this is ESC???
And if we talk results, there is no arguing that Germany has been pretty succesful in the last 3 years (= since we started selecting the entries the way I have described). Top 10 3 years in a row. Btw, I made it perfectly clear that I do not like the German approach either but ESC facts are ESC facts.
Case closed!
hahahhaha because 90% of song in ESC doesn’t make singer but composer! LOL
So normally I discuss composers and where they are from!
And successful in what? In ESC, don’t make me laugh, what competition in ESC looks like? LOL being successful in that competition is not to be proud at all hahaha
By the way in this page you were the one who first mentioned what competition in ESC looks like when you talked with oxi about E. Sande, so…please..
And case is not close when you say so, i don’t care where you come from, i can speak with you normal and equally! Good bye!!!
I’m enjoying London 2012 closing ceremony till now, but still my verdict remains as before:
-best opening ceremony ever: Athens 2004
-best closing ceremony ever: Moscow 1980
Everyone, have a good night and take care
Good night oxi!
I don’t think that having too many guests at Olympics closing is good at all…I would rather concentrate on sportsmen from different countries and continents than listening music stars, I want to see golden medalists more, this is not music festival, but SPORT EVENT!!! :@
And I haven’t seen any Russian or Chinese sportsmen not their flag this evening, and they have 87 and 82 medals!! ts,ts,ts what a shame, prowestern and proamerican Olympics!
The closing ceremony has Silvia Night aethetics now. YAY ESC rules. LOL
How could anyone vote for this piece of junk?
Just look at Malta they have qualified for final in 2012, and in 2005 with 100% televoting and was 2nd, Malta is not appreciated in Europe more than Andorra at all (maybe even less), nor Malta have strong diaspora or neighbors! So that only shows how bad Andorran entries are, this one included, when I hear their vocals I want to puke, seriously (the same goes for that ULTRA KITSCH from Andorra in 2005, everything from singer and her horrible dress to composition) .. :/ too bad even for ESC! :/
OMG I have just sen Kirani James from Granada, 400 m gold medalist!!
But hey have showed us the athletes from Netherlands 3/4 times..and nobody from Russia and China! Really NO COMMENT!! :/
I’ve realised that I forgot to mention ESC-related songs for the Olympics. So now when the Olympics have ended, I can end up with this one: “Trys milijonai” by Marijonas Mikutavicius from LT United.
I do agree this time. It was in my top15! As for the top3 I will predict Sweden 2011, the Netherlands 2012 and then Slovakia 2010. If not then it should be Iceland 2005, which does not deserve to be ranked so high. Anyway it becomes apparent that I will miss from this chart Israel 2004, the Netherlands 2005, Iceland 2007, Moldova 2008, Belgium 2008 and Albania 2011.
I still believe Croatia 2010, FYR Macedonia 2008 and Monaco 2005 do not deserve any place in this chart.
I can bear with Estonia 2010 and Switzerland and Finland 2012, but still I prefer some others (mentioned above).
I agree ! Iceland 07 , Albania 11 and especially Moldova 08 deserved a place on this list as well !
I am adding : SAN MARINO 2008 ! and Bulgaria 2005 ! Incredibly UNDERRATED ! ( Unless we are in for a surprise in the coming up top 3
)
San Marino 2008 is the only one I voted that hasnt come out yet either but I doubt it
I miss Estonia 1993 and Cyprus 2008 from my list, and I can’t imagine that they will show up.
@donniedarko83
I agree with you about Iceland 2007, a bit on Albania 2011 and absolutely not on Moldova 2008. That song belongs to my bottom. But as you say, surprises are wanted and therefore I wouldn’t actually mind seeing those songs popping up.
I find it ok but i wouldn’t put it that high. They were unlucky having to compete in a year with 28 semifinalists. If there were 2 semifinals,i’m sure they would have qualified.
Ps: I can’t believe that Nadzeya Ostapchuk had to return her gold medal in shot put becuase she failed her drug test.I was cheering for her.
