James Mitchell TV  James Mitchell TV – Good news people who hate these videos! This is the last of the 2012 reviews! And what better way to end the series, than with an over-sized fairy picnic! It’s Cyprus’ entry: La La Love by Ivi Adamou. What did you think of the song, the video and the live performance? Personally I think she butchered the song live, especially because it sounded so great in the studio! Leave your thoughts below!

Cyprus 12 is far from being my cup of tea (#28 on my 2012 list), but it wasn’t THAT bad after all (of course no comparison to their 2011 masterpiece).
I have to say that i think that the official video of the song is, artistically speaking, almost flawless imho; there is a small problem though: it is totally irrelevant with the song itself!!!
Btw, I think that the lady playing the bad witch on the video used to be a model in Greece during late 80′s-early 90′s; her face looks so familiar.

PS: Congratulations to James Mitchell for the 2012 reviw series; good job.

lol !! Somewhere I read that Cyprus participation in ESC 2013 is in danger because of the money it costs… Well, Ivi spent nearly all thay have in making this videoclip haha. Now, seriously, the song is not so bad -my second favourite this year- and after the festival it has has a lot o success in a lot of countries.

I love “Krata ta matia sou klista”, the song she did with Melisses. When I heard she would sing for Cyprus, I hoped for something similar. Yes, I think “La la love” was that bad. In the same league as “Hero”, “Je t’adore”, “Casanova” and the majority of the Maltese entries. This qualifying was the surprise of the year for me. (And why did she sing on top of a table made of books? Can someone please explain. It is a bigger mystery than Dima Bilan’s ice ring.)

  4. Eulenspiegel says:

I think the Evil Queen was much more exciting than Prince Charming. I would have liked to see herin Baku. Not as a singer, but as a guitarist or something…

  5. Shevek says:

I’ve never liked the song (the orchestration is noisy, trying desperately to hide the absence of a strong melody and the live performance is very bad). Ivi managed not to look trashy, but she chose the wrong dress and the wrong video (what the heck was that?!). I do agree with Oxi, when it comes to Cyprus 11 though.

P.S.: I agree, Eulenspiegel, the Evil Queen is much more exciting than that liveless and cold prince. LOL

As a huge fan of Ivi Adamou, I’ve constantly been hearing comments of “The video doesn’t match the song!”. In fact, Ivi is actually “thinking ouside the box”.

La La Love is a dance track and you’d expect it to feature either a Cypriot nightclub or a beach to suit the song. Wrong! What Ivi did with the video is very clever and opted to go for a Snow White theme to suit the ‘love’ themed lyrics of the song (well, apart from the “From Paris to La, over the night” line).

As for the two live performances at Baku, in the semi-final, IVI ADAMOU WAS ILL AT THAT TIME!!! It was like seeing a footballer continuing to play whilst suffering a hamstring injury. It could’ve been costly but fortunately it didn’t and Cyprus qualified.

As for the grand final performance, I admit, Ivi was slightly out of tune. Although my big concern was that Ivi Adamou may not have the strongest vocals, compared to the likes of Pastora Soler, Rona Nishliu and Kaliopi.

I was very surprised when I found out that Ivi ended up doing BETTER with the juries than the televoting section. I’d thought it’d be the other way round!

P.S. And I almost forgot, La La Love is now MASSIVE in Sweden. So it’s no surprise that Sweden gave their 12 points to Cyprus this year.

      • Oscar says:

And, as I have said before, Ivi managed to make La la love in a lot of countries, despite of the position of Cyprus in ESC 2012.

Thank you for the compliments to Pastora Soler :D

        • Anthony says:

You’re right. La La Love also made a massive impact on several other countries, not just Sweden. Bizarrely, it even reached number 1 in Qatar! Strange but true.

And thank you for the compliment!

  7. Patrick P. says:

“La La Love” was the worst song of the 2012 season. It’s gotten to the point that I cannot even find a way to word my dislike of the song.

    • I accept your opinion ( both yours and Shevek’s ) but it was definitely not the worst song nor the worst ( live ) performance imo . For example , in my eyes , France had the worst stage presentation , Georgia the worst song , Greece and Turkey the worst lyrics and Montenegro the worst vocals.
As regards Cyprus 2012 it is my #21 this year with a 7 out of 12 !

PS : As much as I agree with Anthony’s point of view regarding the clip approach , when there are lyrics such as “from Paris to LA over the night” , you clearly don’t go for a Snow White theme in your clip…Better go for a more realistic and mainstream approach ;)

      • Anthony says:

All the other lines from La La Love pretty much fits in with the Snow White themed video, It’s only the “From Paris to LA, over the night” line that doesn’t quite fit in.

      • Patrick P. says:

I agree with you that Georgia had the worst song and that Greece had the worst lyrics. I do not agree on Montenegro’s vocals, am close to agreeing on France’s stage presentation, and I thought that Turkey’s lyrics were bad but not awful (something easy to overlook).

That being said, Cyprus’ stage presentation was borderline offensive to me. Ivi’s song is bad enough that even a harlequin romance has more intrinsic literary value than the lyrics of “La La Love,” yet here she is, stomping on books. All I saw was a tramp trampling on intelligence.
