Netherlands: TROS and Anouk on Speaking Terms Again

Posted: July 21, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Netherlands

Netherlands- Dutch broadcaster TROS and singer-songwriter Anouk are on speaking terms again. A few weeks ago the popular singer announced that she had written a ‘’killersong’’ for the Eurovision Song Contest and that she was willing to participate for the Netherlands.

The situation in the Netherlands could not be more confusing: As reported earlier Peter Kuipers, head of TROS told Anouk that she had to compete against other artists. Anouk and a lot of Dutch Eurovision Song Contest fans became very upset about this reaction from TROS. Even John de Mol who produced the National final this year quit the co-operation with TROS. But now it seems that Peter Kuipers realizes that he has made a mistake and changed his mind:  ‘’We’ll soon have a conversation with Anouk and after that we’ll see’’’

Anouk is very popular in the Netherlands and Belgium. She had her breakthrough in 1997 with the single: Nobody’s wife. Other hits from Anouk are R U kidding me, Girl,Lost, I don’t Wanna Hurt, Modern World and Woman. She has won several TMF awards and nine Edison Awards, most for Best Female.

Her music style can be described as rock, combining the styles of artist such as Joan Osborne, Melissa Etheridge and Alanis Morissette. Anouk also wrote songs for other artist as Trijntje Oosterhuis.   Anouk has four children and was once married to Edwin Jansen and Remon Stotijn. She also had a short relationship with Dutch rapper Unarhodox ( Robert Coenen) but she broke up with him in November 2010.

The Netherlands haven’t qualified for the final since 2005. This is a Eurovision record.

I’d rather see the Netherlands have a Nationaal Songfestival unless this really is a killer song like Anouk says it is. I don’t mind internal selections as long as it’s a good song. Here’s hoping that whatever direction TROS goes, they have a good song and make it to the finals. Good luck Anouk, and if they end up having a Songfestival, then please have more artists that the Voice rejects. As I’ve stated many times before, there are great artists in the Netherlands and it seems that TROS is afraid to use them. And yes I am still hoping for Ralf Mackenbach. :P

I am really having a hard time to believe that TROS has Anouk coming to them to represent the Netherlands to esc and they are giving her a hard time. I mean what is there to consider ? Anouk would be the best thing to happen to a humiliated in esc the last years country. I do hope that it’s not too late and we’ll get the chance to see her on the esc stage.

Will this be the pilot episode of a new soap opera? I hope not. Ukraine has been unbeatable in that area.

I’m a little scared though, if the best-selling local act of the year (I read only Adele outsold her) flops then what’s going to happen? I think that could kill off the last of the big names who would be willing to take part. I’m not saying newbies to the music scene aren’t good enough, but it is nice to see local stars take part and raise public interest.

good to see she’s back in the race…

A little information about here chart succes in The Netherlands can be found on the website of Dutchcharts.nl (The official sales chart of the Netherlands). She had 8 number ONE albums. 3 other albums reached the top 10. She also has a long list of singles that chart in the dutch charts.

In belgium she has great succes too. Internationally she scored hits too like her first album Together Alone and singles like Lost, nobody’s wife,

Let compete fairly with everyone else. If it is a killer song and she is wonderful, (personally I’ve never heard of her), let her commpete and prove she is as good as she is suppose to be. Jedward competeed fairly in Ireland both times and won, what has she to fear.
