Albania: RTSH Calls for Songs

Posted: July 20, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Albania

Albania – The Albanian national broadcaster RTSH has called for songs for its traditional song festival Festivali i Kenges. The festival will be held at the end of this year and will decide on the successor of Rona Nishliu as Albanian representative in Eurovision. All interested musicians may submit one song in CD format to the national broadcaster. A professional jury will chose a certain number of songs to compete in the Festival i Kenges. Rumor has it, that only Albanian songwriters will be accepted. This has not been confirmed yet, however. This year in Baku, Albania achieved its best result ever, when Rona Nishliu came 5th with her dramatic  ballad Suus.

I think I ll pass. I have honestly lost every hope to this perfect example of a tragedy of a festival FiK is nowadays. Last year music wise and result wise it hit rock bottom. Of course the fact that the entry was successful will encourage them to continue like that I am afraid. I dread the impact Albania 12 might have to esc in general really…I do hope we won’t have to stand such embarrassing things again on the esc stage but I doubt it. Get your act together please !

    • I couldn’t disagree more… Albania 12 was good for ESC and I hope it will have a lasting impact. What is embarrassing for ESC is something like Greece or Austria 12…

    • togravus says:

Complete nonsense … and not even funny. :(

    • Anon says:

Thanks for your opinion on the best NF music wise, that I don’t even consider as a NF but as a “great music” festival close to classical music and to the artistic spirit ruling this specific musical world (and i’m not even Albanian).
It’s the total opposite on the worse thing i’ve ever heard of since I became an observant of this contest, that so happens to be liked by fans , no wonder why since they’re schalger lovers : MF.

I don’t think FiK or even RTSH should change anything, either they suceed or not for that matter.
Funny thing is that uneducated people are still preasing the stupid MF-like contest that Albania has (Magike something) over FiK…

      • guitaristbl says:

Well you could at least add a “in my opinion” in all that, just to hide some of the overflowing “know-it-all” attitude.
Yes I do love MF as well for many reasons : diversity, musical credibility and great artists being just some of them. The main one being though the fact that it is a contemporary music festival and a worthy one. Last year 8 out of the 10 songs reaching the final were what I would consider great songs. Unlike FiK were everything sounded pretty much the same and the few exceptions that stranded out were totally ignored (Samantha Caravello being the only exception). A dreary festival it was.So I will let you, the educated one, to continue following your favourite festival and I, the uneducated one, will do exactly the same.

P.S. Just a hint from the uneducated one : calling someone a “schlager lover” is not degrading. Schlager is a perfectly fine musical genre like any other and should be represented in a contest that claims to be diverse.

Keep up with the good work Albania. “Suus” along with “Zemrën E Lamë Peng” are, by a mile, my most favourite Albanian entries ever.
Imho, songs like “Suus” is the best answer to all those out there who consider the ESC of low quality and treat it as a fest of middle of the road “songs” and “musicians”.
What we esc fans should be ashamed of or embarassed is things like: Irl 12 &11, Gre 12&10, Geo 12, Smr 12, Swe 11, Rom 10, Ukr 09… and the list is of course endless.

    @ET, what about that 1979 article? ;) :)

  3. Allan94 says:

Well, Rona was Kosovan, so why not have international singers?

  4. Eurofan says:

Personally I never understand why people diss Albanian entries so much when to me it’s an example of a country with very few resources compared to the rest of Europe, holding a great national contest (with orchestra etc), and generally sending good songs to ESC…

    • guitaristbl says:

Well the explanation is quite simple : different views and opinions. And I don’t think anyone dissed the Albanian entries in general. What defines a nf as “great” is subjective. To me it’s mostly a dated snooze fear where anything slightly fresh and contemporary or with potential gets ignored unfortunately.

    • Eurofan says:

ok get that thanks,am new to this site and was wondering about the tone of things here…and you are? ..in the scheme of things?

  5. Lucky12b says:

To be honest: I hated “Suus”, too. There were 19 god to enjoyable Songs for me in Albanian Final, but when Rona screamed, I had to leave the Room…The shortened ESC-Version wasn’t that horrible anymore for me & many People liked it, so, it’s okay. But I understand guitaristbl, when he is afraid to hear 20 Songs like “Suus” in this Years Festivali i Këngës after Ronas Success.

Let’s hope, there will be enjoyable Songs for everyone:)

& Since all the Songs will be in Albanian, there may be not THAT much Attempts from abroad, I think;)

    • Lucky12b says:

& I think, ESC needs Songs like “Suus”, “Wockl mit deim Popo”, “Lipstick” & “Social Network Song”. You may like them or not, but they bring Diversity between all those Mainstream Pop & old-fashioned Ballads.

      • togravus says:

Mentioning a masterpiece like “Suus” in one breath with 3 abosultely shitty (sorry!) entries is rather daring imo.You seem to be a bold guy … ;) :)

        • Lucky12b says:

Okay, I think I shouldn’t always use the “&” Symbol, I meant “AND” in Capital Letters. In my Opinion, “Suus” (& Lipstick, too, by the Way;) is shitty, in your Opinion the others. But we need my “Shittys” & yours, to stay in Diversity. I think, no one would call “Molitva” Rubbish, but I also think, nobody wants to hear 42 Molitva-Copies in ESC;)

      • guitaristbl says:

From the aforementioned only “Lipstick” has musical credibility IMO and has as a song philosophy to offer something to esc. The other 3 are a disgrace to their respective genres. Diversity while ignoring quality is a dangerous trap IMO that esc should avoid falling into. Fake quality is equally dissapointing.

        • Lucky12b says:

Haha, half Year ago, I had never expected to defend horrible Albanian Entry, but: You can’t argue about Quality. I would never call “Lipstick” Quality, since for me, it was annoying to see 2 Guys with crazy Hair jumping without any any Rhythm & singing always the same 2 Sentences. But many People liked it & so, it has some Kind of Quality. The others, too. A Song, nobody can stand will never win a Preselection, open or intern. What I can’t stand is, when Juries vote for Songs, most Viewer can’t enjoy because of “Quality”. Have you ever noticed, without any Jury, “Popular” had won 2011? & yes, whatever People think about it, it was mote “popular” than those, Jury voted to 1st & 2nd Place.

  6. Eurofan says:

ok, being new here, kind of get the general tone of this website, I used the word “diss” cause kind of felt that was the feeling here re Albanian entry(ies), without any kind of acceptance of other views, along the lines of “ok, I didn’t like the Albanian entry 2012 myself but..”, nothing like that..so not sure I’ll continue here, there are other sites (in UK especially) where the debate about such things is 1/more interesting 2/ a lot more civilized …so now if you tell me below “So go f++k yourself” etc, well, I sure will……..be a pleasure!

    • Please don’t leave! It’s mostly 2 people and one of them will not come back. So please, we need a bit more civilized people!

      • CC says:

Who will not come back? :/

      • Eurofan says:

ok am sorry about that, as I understand a lot of people started visiting your site after the crash of “ESCtoday” (which I sometimes commented on), but I guess now with the same kind of tone that finished off ESCtoday seems to be creeping in to your excellent website (IMO), of course freedom of speech is important, but for me there is a limit in terms of how people conduct themselves on such sites…is why I prefer UK sites on ESC, heated debates but with a cool atmosphere, ok I’ll continue for the moment…not sure how long I’ll last though! :-)

          • Eurofan says:

ok, come back to me on that one…., fewer pure insults without any kind of reasoning v I agree to a certain extent but..kind of comments (key to a successful ,especially ESC, website..)

            • Eurofan says:

just to add, at the end of the day, it’s a song contest once a year, and people like the songs/countries or they dont, so what’s the big problem here? is it not possible to have some kind of civilized debate about it? that innocent people die in a cinema in Colorado, or people have to suffer in Greece or Spain and can’t even afford an internet connection to comment on such things is far more important IMO…

  7. CC says:

A bit trouble and drama is always welcome. Visitors will not come to this site to find a place to sleep.

    • You are right, but there is a limit. It’s so frustrating to me to put time into writing articles and all I get are people calling me stupid (comparing me to Hitler and more stuff like that)… The thing is, if I just leave it at that I will soon back down from writing again.

      • CC says:

That of course is inacceptable. Thank you for your contributions, me and many others would miss your well-written and informative articles I think.

      • Well i do try to make it a better place (I for instance never comment on the bad comments, insults and all) and tried to contribute with a recent article and my 2012 analysis to come soon… the point is not to compare ourselves to esctoday but to bring a very personal and actually critical look to Eurovision, to analyze, comment, argue. Not to blindly accept all that comes our ways, and that includes the creepy fans. Resist! We’ll still be there!

  8. I absolutely love FiK, its actual history to Albanian mainstream culture, its grandeur, its musical qualities, the live orchestra… and usually I am disappointed by the juries’ choice and was never fond of Albania at the Eurovision song contest, except for 2006 and 2008 (but there was much better in FiK each time)… In 2012 an instant masterpiece, which was the only song apart from Anggun mentioned here in France around this competition, and an incredible incredible song, voice, performance went from FiK to Eurovision and that’s good enough to keep watching FiK and hope it’ll last.

  9. Shevek says:

I am looking forward to listening to the new Albanian hopefuls. Good luck. :)

P.S.: FiK 11 has sent one of the best ever ESC songs and the best Albanian entry by very far.

  10. Patrick P. says:

I love FiK, and I love Albania in Eurovision, so, of course, I’ll be watching it again this year. I hope for another great edition to come!

  11. What an EXCELLENT entry did they send to eurovision this year ?!!!
I accept people not liking Suus but I don’t accept them ignoring any artistic merit of it !
    ALBANIA 08 , 11 AND 12 ROCKED !
We need Albania in our eurovision family ! Keep up the good work !

    • guitaristbl says:

Artistic merit is subjective as well Donnie, sorry. Or else I would have to call everyone to see the artistry behind entries I consider artistic either they want it or not. Other than that it’s a matter of personal opinion. IMO FiK and the albanian attitude towards the contest need a serious revamp.
