Norway: NRK Submission Period Opens

Posted: July 1, 2012 by hulluna in Norway

Norway – The national broadcasting company of Norway, NRK, have today published details on how to submit entries to next year’s national selection; Melodi Grand Prix. Songs can be submitted online via the official Melodi Grand Prix website. Artists must also fill out an application form and are encouraged to send a CD with the form. As usual, all performers must be 16 years old by the first ESC semifinal in Sweden in May 2013. The finished songs must be under 3 minutes long, although initial demos can be longer.  Entrants do not have to be Norwegian.

A jury, appointed by NRK will choose semifinalists, and the first semifinal has been timetabled to take place on January 19th, 2013 in Steinkjer. The other venues have yet to be announced. It is understood that Vivi Stenberg will replace Per Sundnes in organising the Grand Prix this year as musical director. She has years of experience at Sony, and has said to NRK,

“The Norwegian music industry is so vibrant at the minute, and I really hope we are able to attract both artists and composers who reflect this golden age we are experiencing at the moment. I don’t have any particular acts in mind, but I would really like potential artists and composers to send in entries that don’t have a typical Eurovision sound. Go on, surprise us!”

The other rules of Melodi Grand Prix appear to remain the same as in 2012 and the Norwegian national final will be held in February 2013. Details of how to apply can be found, in Norwegian, here. The closing deadline is Saturday 1st of September 2012.

  1. I have never been to Scandinavia, but just the fact that they start looking for their entry in July is enough for me to looooove them ^^

Norway has sent some great songs in the past. I want them to get their act together again; please send someone who can sing live a good song (preferably in Norwegian).

P.S.: lose the prerecorded vocals. You’re copying the worst side of MF.

Hanne Sorvaag as composer and maybe as singer would be the best option…

  4. dimitrisesc says:

I hope that after 2 years of experimenting with exotic sounds they will go back to something more Norwegian.

Their entries in the last few years were a bit disappointing, but I still have faith in them. After all, two of my favourite esc entries ever are from Norway – 1995 and 2006 :)

    This sounds promising.
