Slovenia: The End of ‘Misija Evrovizija’?

Posted: June 21, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Slovenia

Slovenia – According to eurosong.be, the Slovenian national broadcaster RTVSLO has decided not to continue the casting “Misija Evrovizija” in 2013. This year, Slovenian did not use the traditional national final “EMA” to select its Eurovision representative, but the new casting show, a copy of the German “Unser Star für..” series. As neither the ratings, nor the result at Eurovision (Eva Boto came second to last in the second semi-final) had the expected success, RTVSLO has apparently decided to cancel “Misija Evrovizija”. It is not clear yet how the Slovenian entry for Eurovision 2013 will be chosen, but a return to the EMA format seems likely.

As if EMA was that successful. Only two Slovenian songs qualified in recent years. In the end the selection format is merely the means. It can lead to a win (MF 2012) or a loss (MF 2009).

    • But this format consists of many evenings, it lasts almost 2 months, thus if viewing figures are not high, it’s not good for TV station, it’s expensive..and EMA was festival which lasts only 2 evenings, consists of one semi and one final..

Great. One idol nonsene less (although I admit that I find this year’s entry okay). More national finals for real musicians, please!

I agree with CC. Enough with those idol-style nfs.

off topic: Felicitações Portugal!!! ;) :)

    • CC says:

Yay, Portugal won! :D Tomorrow I shall keep my fingers crossed for Greece.

      • Hahahahaha CC, you don’t want your country Germnay in 1/2 finals?? LOL :D

        btw Hi dear CC!!! :-***********

          Hello Marko! :D

As in ESC, I do not judge countries but quality (according to my standards, hehe). For Greece, though, I make a slight exception because given their economical and political situation I think they *really* deserve this feeling of success. Another aspect is that Germans have a similar playing technice to the Portuguese team which is why a final between them could become a bit boring.

Btw, I decided not to follow next year’s edition too unless changes will be made concerning the rules/anouncement of the votes. Literally I am PISSED off by learning the results just about three weeks after the contest. Watching the shows, most probably, but enough with losing so much of my spare time thanks to national finals, pre-listenings, etc. Songs are of little value actually. So I am with thee somehow. :/ Awfully ruined ESC.

  4. Their NF format has been boring these 2 years. However they came up with 2 very nice songs ( well performed of course ) both entering my personal top 10 ! I do not see the need of so many shows though…Keep it simple.

PS : Good luck to Greece and Germany tonight !

The concept was perfectly fine imo and I will always support concepts that give a chance to fresh and talented people. The winner and the song was perfectly fine despite the result in esc. I wish Slovenia goes one with a similar concept.

It will not be missed by me. Just the thought of those twins who managed to reach the final is reason enough to end this show. Go back to EMA, please. Thanks. :)

    • Patrick P. says:

They weren’t that bad, Shevek. :)
I thought the Prusnik sisters were two talented girls that just happened to have some debilitating issues in taste. They also had a wonderful charismatic stage presence (something that Eva lacked immensely). When they could control themselves and put on a tasteful show, the twins were, in my opinion, the best that Misija Evrovizija had this year.

Besides, I would have had one of their songs than that incomplete song that ended up winning.

      • Shevek says:

I did not follow the show, Patrick. I only watched the final. The twins had one good song (the one in Slovenian), but they were charmless, their vocals were colourless and I remember being very surprised to see them in the final. Eva had good vocals, but she needs to grow as an artist. Bring back EMA!

        • Patrick P. says:

Yes, the finals was a good example of their taste getting in the way of the charisma they showed at other times. I did not follow the show either but have happened upon some of their other performances when I was doing a ranking of my favorite songs from national finals this year.

However, I do agree with you completely on one thing. Bring back EMA!
