Netherlands: John de Mol Continues Cooperation

Posted: June 10, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Netherlands

  Netherlands – The partnership between John de Mol’s production company Talpa and the Dutch broadcaster TROS concerning the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest will probably continue in 2013. Successful television produced John de Mol affirmed on RTL 4 his will to organize the Dutch selection again next year.  He said:  “we’re going to try again in 2013.“  He did not reveal any details on the procedure and TROS has not yet confirmed the partnership.

In 2012, TROS and Talpa worked together for the first time producing the national final. An open selection had been organized with 6 candidates finally being selected for the live show. There was criticism as 4 of the contestants were formally associated to “The Voice of Holland” (A Talpa production). Nevertheless, the national final generated high ratings and public interest. The winning song “You and Me” by Joana Franka became a number one hit in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, Joana Franka could not change the Dutch run of non-qualifications. Next year the Netherlands will try for the ninth time in a row to make the final again.

    I didn’t like NSF this year at all. Very disappointing choice of songs. Raffaela and Pearl both have great voices. But the first sang a trash song, the second a dull ballad. I fear it will be equally bad next year. Some rejected The Voice singers, good voices of course, but with substandard songs.

    • I agree… it was 5 poor entries, either vocally or song wise and Joan Franka, who really was the very best and freshest… I was glad she won and really hoped for NL to get to the final (they would have deserved it in comparison to Malta for instance) but the live was terribly trashy. From such a compagny, I expected a huge great live for esc… let’s see if NL fails again next year, I don’t see what will save them from then on :(

      Does Jonh De Mol have any involvment with the national finals for the Juniour Song Festival National Selection show for JESC at all, because whoever does that show and writes the songs on there should organise the Netherlands National Final for the main Eurovision. The Netherlands can do fairly well at the Junior Eurovision, Comming 1st in 2009 with Ralf Mackenbach and Rachels “ik ben teenager” 2nd place in 2011. Its a pitty they dont have the same sucess at ESC.

    I would love to see The Netherlands qualify to the final! They’ve sent some good songs in previous years, such as their entries in 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012 that in my opinion really deserved to qualify.

    • Scott Hirst says:

      2005, 2007 and 2008 definetly. 2010 was cheesy and was not current. 2012 was let down with the poor vocalls (in places) and the stagging/custume which to me was not a problem, its the vocice at the end of the day which is most important, and if the music and song lyrics are decent.

    Trying to be pragmatic,i would say that Nethrelands would have better chances to qualify with a song like Austria 11 or Germany 12 even though they are not among my favorite songs or genres.A strong voice,a simple stage presentation and a camera friendly singer.

    • Scott Hirst says:

      Ralf Mackenbach is the answer, if they sent him, he should do a song similar to “Dance” “Game over” “Dont Say Goodbye” .

    We’re talking about Mr. de Mol. Having a good song present will be difficult. Good luck, anyway.

    Buy it from Sweden, it works :)

  6. Beatle says:

    Netherlands has some really talented singers there. The contestants this year were mainly from The Voice and they were pretty good.

    I think what went wrong was the presentation of the song. That’s all. Hopefully next year they will be able to present it better.

  7. JacobGijzen says:

    its all about the performance and the stage effects for the Netherlands, then we can do well

  8. Scott Hirst says:

    They should send Ralf Mackenbach (JESC 2009 Winner) but do a song for ralf contest! Ralf Mackenbach is the answer to solving the Netherlands fate at Eurovision! His Eric Saade/Pop Club style makes him an ideal choice. They might even secure a victory or top 3 placing if they sent him.

  9. Tom Hampton says:

    Now this SHOULD be the winner

  10. Scott Hirst says:

    Netherlands = Ralf Mackenbach
    Belgium = Ian Thomas
    UK = Brad Kavanagh
