Portugal Jury Choices Revealed

Posted: June 5, 2012 by hulluna in Eurovision Song Contest 2012, Portugal

Hot on the heels of the German announcement, comes the declaration of the Portugese jury. The jury in Portugal gave their 12 points in the grand final to Spain. There’s some eyebrow raising and interesting point awarding in the semifinal though, with the Portugese jury giving points to Georgia and Slovakia. The following was awarded by the Portugese Jury in the final:

12  Spain
10  Germany
8  Estonia
7  Serbia
6 Italy
5  Bosnia & Herzegovina
4  France
3 Albania
2  Iceland
1 Russia

Combined jury and televoting:

12 Spain
10  Germany
8  Russia
7  Estonia
6 Moldova
5  Serbia
4 Romania
3 Sweden
2  Italy
1 Ukraine

Russia therefore again picked up a lot of televotes, as did Moldova and Romania, with enough gained by Ukraine to make it into the points.

The jury comprised of

Sofia Espada – producer of shows
Carla Alves – representative of the publisher Valentine Carvalho
Fernando Martins – music producer and musician
Alexandra Valentim singer
João Calixto – RDP

In the 2nd semifinal the jury voted as follows:

12 Estonia
10 Serbia
8 Bosnia & Herzegovina
7 Slovakia
6 Sweden
5 Georgia
4 Croatia
3 Malta
2 Belarus
1 Slovenia

Combined semifinal result:

12 Estonia
10  Sweden
8  Serbia
7  Lithuania
6  Bulgaria
5  Bosnia & Herzegovina
4  Slovakia
3  Norway
2  Ukraine
1  Georgia

  1. So the jury didn’t like Sweden and Russia and the televoters loved Russia and liked Sweden…
With the German results I would say Russia was much closer to Sweden or even won the televote… If thats the case thank god for juries!

  2. hulluna says:

I’m still staring at Georgia and Slovakia’s scores in the semi…!

  3. togravus says:

The Portuguese jury gave a point to Russia????? Never let those people be part of any jury again …

Btw, looking at the German and Portuguese votes I suspect that Croatia would have qualified with 100 % jury voting. Bloody televote! LOL

  4. The top 5 of the jury makes sense, but then you see France above Albania? What if juries had France higher than it got but televote totally ignored it? Albania, Bosnia and Iceland also disappears from the votes, and I bet these three really got much help from the juries! Also Moldova must have done superb with televote…

  5. Some of the same countries in the Portuguese televote again and again too, it’s a remarkable coincidence!

  6. Sir Shakespeare says:

My guess how the televoting top 5 resulted:

    1. Spain
    2. Russia
    3. Moldova
    4. Romania
    5. Sweden

These five are the obvious top 5, since Sweden got at least 6 televoting points, and Moldova and Romania got even more. Btw, is her name actually Sword Sofia?

  7. Shevek says:

Jury points for Georgia and Slovakia are unexpected and they show how much more unexpected the results would be without the oh so predictable televote. Portugal loves melodramatic ballads and radio friendly stuff (Germany 12).

  8. VOTE says:

Lithuania in semi final Received many points for the televoting,Interesting
    —————————————————————————————————————————–
This the points from israel jury in the final
    12 Spain
    10 Sweden
    8 Italy
    7 Cyprus
    6 Greece
    5 Norway
    4 Moldova
    3 Romania
    2 Ukraine
    1 Albania

  9. Sir Shakespeare says:

And wow! 5 jury points to “I’m a joker, I’m a poker”?! My jaw just dropped through the floor and might be found in Australia next day.

    • Shevek says:

They were only trying to say that they can vote for unconventional stuff too. It’s a ‘we are very clever and sophisticated’ attitude, I suppose. LOL At least they were not predictable.

      • Sir Shakespeare says:

I guess so. And what about Belarus? They remind me of those Mariafolia guys from Festival RTP da Canção 2006. Portugal need Simone de Oliveira in the jury next year, obviously.

  10. Llantio2895 says:

im guessing these are the televote results for the final :

    spain 12
    russia 10
    moldova 8
    romania 7
    sweden 6
    ukraine 5
    estonia 3
    4 ??????
    germany 2
    serbia 1

  11. Dino Mil says:

    Exactly

Estonia and Germany did well only because of juries. Also it becomes increasingly possible that Iceland was advance due to the juries.

In the final Cyprus and Greece were pushed down in expense of Germany and Estonia. Oh where are the full results???

  12. The Phantom says:

I think it’s entirely possible that Russia could have won the televoting. The grannies got just one ‘douze points’ overall. But something tells me that they would have received a lot more if we were still under the voting rules from 1998-2009. IF that’s the case, then thank god we have the juries.

  13. A jury voting for Russia , Georgia , France , Malta , Belarus and Slovakia…Great !

  14. So the Portuguese televoting voted for :
    12p : Spain
10 : Russia Lol ! It seems very likely that grannies won the whole televoting ! If countries like Germany and Portugal awarded 10 points each to Russia , I don’t dare to imagine how Eastern countries voted for Russia…
    8 : Moldova
    7 : Romania
    6 : Sweden
5 : Ukraine ! Surprised to see their diaspora in Portugal so inactive !
    4 : Germany/Other country
    3: Germany/Estonia/Other country
    2: Germany/Estonia/Other country
    1 : Serbia

  15. Yet again we see that overall the juries give a more balanced result, not just the same group of countries doing well. They are not perfect and some are just as biased in their voting as the televoters, but overall it serves the many rather than the few. It’s a joke to see some countries doing so well in the televote yet again, when they were so much lower in the jury vote.

Ukraine lost more ground in the televote, with two more of their biggest supporters missing (Armenia and Poland), they had already lost a little ground when the Czech Republic departed.

The jury vote for Georgia is a bit mysterious, we know that there were 5 points from Portugal and 3 from Slovenia, while B & H and Germany didn’t vote for them. I think some people are missing the point a bit with Georgia though, they only missed the final because many of their biggest supporters were absent from their semifinal, but those that were in that semifinal did vote for them. Their biggest supporters in order of support, with the points given are:

    Lithuania: 12
    Armenia: Absent
    Ukraine: 10
    Belarus: 6
    Russia: Other semi
    Azerbaijan: Other semi
    Turkey: 3
    Estonia: 4
    Greece: Other semi
    Moldova: Other semi
    Poland: Absent
