Eurovision 2012: Today’s Rehearsals SF1

Posted: May 18, 2012 by hulluna in Austria, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Moldova, Russia

Eurovision 2012 – Today saw the resumption of rehearsals by acts in both semifinals. Russia kicked off this morning. They got a huge round of applause in the press conference where journalists were watching on the big screen. They’d also brought a large cut out of themselves where you could put your face in and be a granny! Check out their rehearsal video here:

Finland were next up, followed by a rather quiet press conference with no-one really not seeming to know what to ask Pernilla Karlsson

Hungary’s Compact Disco had people humming along in the press conference, but they really were rather like background music.

Austria’s Trackshittaz were up next. Not only were they woki-ing their popo, they were lighting up more today with LEDs on their outfits. Unfortunately it was lost a little in the bright lights of the backing screens, but according to singer Lukas, they’re going to tweak that before the final performance.

We headed off into the hall to see Moldova to see Pasha Parfeny, who had me dancing along. It’s a fun happy song. Backing dancers and singers are looking good and their happiness is infectious.

Last up was Ireland. Jedward‘s fountain worked properly this time, and danced along with them. It looks like they’ll be getting wet at the end of their performance…

Have the rehearsals today made you change your mind about any of the acts’ chances of qualifying? Let us know.

those grannys from russia are going to be massive pop stars after this contest they are fantastic. jedward well all the girls fancy them they europe’s answer to justin bieber, no point in talking about austria, hungary and moldova because there entrys are crap.

  2. Shevek says:

No, I can’t say that they have made me change my mind about how I rank them. When it comes to predictions, well, I do not really dwell on the subject. Moldova’s act is very impressive, imo. Serbia and Portugal also struck me as being above average rehearsals. Something tells me that the Dutch are going to be disappointed, I’m afraid. I would love to see Bulgaria qualifying, but it does not seem likely.

P.S.: Jedward are all about the fountain and I tend to dislike acts where gimmicks are the main priority (sorry, Martin!).

  3. Me Names Betty says:

oh and i forgot to say that i would love to be one of those russian grannys but i think im to young im only 60 and the grannys look in there late 80s. i also think the grannys should be in skimpy bikinis, just because there old dont mean they cant show a little flesh

Now that 2nd rehearsal has been concluded, my wish list for Tuesday would be:
    -Israel
    -Albania
    -Iceland
    -Switzerland
    -Hungary
    -Moldova
    -Finland
    -Denmark
    -Belgium
and as my 10th favourite, well…I was rooting for Montenegro, but their rehearsals were disastrous (I still like the studio version though); I don’t really know…maybe Romania or Cyprus (I still don’t like either of the two songs though). Omg, what a weak semi-final!!! :(

My 5 votes on Tuesday will be for: Israel, Iceland, Switzerland, Hungary and either Moldova or Albania (although Suus will be massively voted by the thousands of Albanians living in Greece, so it would be kinda wasting my vote).

      Hi oxi,

My wish list for Tuesday is:

      - Albania
      - Iceland
      - Israel
      - Moldova
      - Finland (probably won’t happen …)
      - Romania (I really enjoy this one while it is on …)

and then to complete a top 10:

      - Switzerland
      - Denmark
      - Latvia
      - Hungary

And this is what I think will happen

      - Albania
      - Cyprus (sometimes I don’t think so but everyone else has Ivi down as a certain finalist. She has led the semi 1 voting on NDR’s site for quite some time now too, and that has never happened before with a Cypriot song …)
      - Denmark
      - Iceland
      - Israel
      - Moldova
      - Romania
      - Russia (although there might be a surprise. I do not see juries supporting it … and I don’t know what it is like in other countries but currently the grannies are only in 15th place in NDR’s online voting for semi 1 … plus Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus vote in the other semi …)

      OK two more …

      - Switzerland or Hungary
      - Ireland (although I hope that San Marino will steal enough teeny votes to leave Jedward stuck in the semi)

And yes, I am daring and predict a fail for Greece this year. Everything I have read on the net indicates that ‘Aphrodisiac’ has Emmy written all over it. Or will the support from Cyprus and Albania … and perhaps Romania and Montenegro too be enough? Greece’s BIG 5 main supporters (Germany and the UK) both vote in the other semi. Well, we will see …

    • togravus says:

Oh, and I don’t think that semi 1 is weak at all. It has a lot of variety (in fact much more than semi 2) and thus it is quite natural that there are not that many songs everyone of us can put in their ‘love’ category. In the second semi, it is much easier, if someone f. e. loves ballads from the Balkans, (s)he already has 5 songs to support. And if someone is a ballad lover, he will probably like Portugal and Estonia too.

      • skgambassadortoesc says:

        Hi togravus,
I consider it a weak semi given the fact that I cannot even make a proper top10 wish list; I’ve put Denmark, Belgium and Romania or Cyprus just to complete 10 entries.
Btw I hope that you will be proven right regarding Israel because they are my #1 and in case they fail to qualify, it would be the first time since the intoduction of semis that the song that tops my list won’t be compiting in the final :(
        Go Izabo!!! :D

        • togravus says:

It happened to me in 2005, when the songs that were 1st, 2nd and 3rd on my list didn’t make it (Slovenia, Andorra, Monaco) … but those were the worst days of biased televoting … :(

          Go Izabo!

  5. Max Raspail says:

Okay, I think in the first semi final we’ll see Iceland, Greece, Albania, Romania, Israel, Cyprus, Denmark, Russia, Moldova and Ireland qualify…

I wouldn’t be too sure that the juries will let down Russia, togravus… people in the juries can value both the quality of a song and/or the hit potential of an act… in first case, Russia wouldn’t score much, but if it comes to “who’s the next chart-breaker?”, I can see juries going for the grannies as well…

Albania is a bit my “courageous” guess and I’d gooo wild if that really happens – Rona is my personal winner of this semi, very impressive rehearsal full of character and soul…

although I would love to see Finland go through, I fear it won’t be enough by a few votes – wrong semi for this song ’cause Estonia and Sweden can’t vote…

Latvia makes a lot out of this song and Anmary has improved impressively – this would be a nice surprise…

neither Switzerland nor Austria can create this “wow”-effect on stage (anymore) although I’d be happy for both of them – especially for the cute Broggini brothers…

Still Finland is my favorite and I think it is too much underrated

  8. guitaristbl says:

Not much has changed till the first rehearsals here : Finland somehow impressed me less than it had during the first rehearsal and at the same time Hungary and Switzerland are really standing up to my expectations as the time goes by. Same with Ireland, the twins were much better during the 2nd rehearsal and I have no doubts about their qualification or vote stealing from some actual novelty acts like San Marino or (even worse) Austria. Iris gave a very convincing 2nd rehearsal and I am glad. Although I would wish her to qualify I am afraid Albania could steal the ticket here..I expected Greece to deliver something more compared to the 1st rehearsal but delivered even less..This is indeed falling apart in an Armenia 11 way but still has enough supporters to make it I think. On the other hand Cyprus looks strong and Ivi certainly delivers. Romania will certainly qualify, the act is very strong but still I am not into it at all. For the 1st semi I would wish for :

    1) Hungary
    2) Switzerland
    3) Ireland
    4) Denmark
    5) Finland
    6) Cyprus
    7) Moldova
    8) Belgium
    9) Israel
    10) Iceland

I expect Albania, Romania, Greece and Russia to qualify instead of Belgium, Israel, Finland and either Switzerland or Hungary unfortunately :-(
