San Marino: Reveal Song and Cause Controversy

Posted: March 16, 2012 by hulluna in San Marino

San Marino – The entry for San Marino has been released and has immediately perplexed Eurovision fans over whether it meets the rules. Valentina Monetta premiered her song ‘Facebook, Uh, Oh, Oh‘ today, which refers to the popular social network site. The EBU rules state the following: “No commercial messages of any kind shall be allowed. A breach of this rule may result in disqualification”.

The use of a multi-million dollar brand name is therefore surely against the rules? The song also has references to cyber-sex in the lyrics and strong sexual innuendos that the EBU may find unacceptable.

Have a look and listen for yourself:

  1. Togravus says:

Please, just change the song. Give Valentina a jazzy tune!

  2. Patrick P. says:

It’ll probably be disqualified anyway, but if not, what a terrible thing to do to such a talented artist. What were they thinking? “Let’s take a wonderful jazz artist and shove a stupid song in a genre that she’s clearly not comfortable in at her until she acquiesces. Clearly, that’ll get us into the final!”

  3. Razvan says:

Oh, no, such a weak song. :( That jazz song that was rumored, which was quite boring for me was much better. I think it will definitely stay in the semi.

  4. M-Fireball says:

O BOZE what a strange entry that would be! :D :D But performance would probably suck!! It’s not for the stage! :D

  5. esctexas says:

San Marino can’t be serious about this (and I hope they aren’t!). Even if they intended to send this song, it’s a clear rule violation and the delegation must have known this. My guess is that it’s a publicity stunt (come on, how many people have care about San Marino) and that the delegation would’ve ended up withdrawing the song anyway, because it really does suck.

    • cala12 says:

That is what I think too. A publicity stunt to get attention from Europe (as they wouldn’t get that with a “normal” song/lyrics.. They probably (or hopefully) have allready some back-up lyrics ready.

  6. Shevek says:

I’ve just heard it… :( what a waste of time… This is really bad. It’s childish, formulaic, tiresome and plasticky. It’s not even a jingle. Good luck.

  7. cala12 says:

If I was Valentina, I would say “thanks, but no thanks” to represent San Marino with that song. She has nothing to gain from it. It will surely not help her further career.

  8. skgambassadortoesc says:

No words, seriously. I still can’t even believe that this Valentina Monetta singing this:

…is the same Valentina singing San Marino 12. I’m just speechless.

  9. skgambassadortoesc says:

Yes, togravus, thanks to you ;) :) .Seriously, it’s probably the biggest let down of the season; almost inexplicable and incomprehensible:(

  10. ct says:

Just when you thought this year couldn’t get any worse…(but it can! we’re still waiting for Engelbert’s song :-D )

  11. siggester! says:

  13. mb says:

OMG OMG Saraaaaaaaaa! :-* I miss you and love you so much! :D

But I have just heard a new disappoientmennt after my numbe 1 Italy droped to bottom 10 :( This time Nina Badric changed song to much worse..new version sucks and I’m so sad..the first one was magical and powerful with RnB elements! :( SHIT! Why all must change..I can’t wait to bloody date when entries won’t have right to change anything..

Sorry Sara it seems you have chosen the wrong time to jwhn smth pissed m off

  14. mb says:

Well Shevek it surely is huge word to say..because I for example think thty Rona Nishliu “Suus” is imbecile or even worse that reminds me of mentaly sick persons screaming in some hospital for ppl with mental problems..but I don’ t say that because n ppl have it as number one.. Fo me this entry “facebook” is okayish..

  15. luludrops says:

According to Eurovision.tv the full title is Facebook, Uh, Oh, Oh.(A Satirical Song)…could this all be a trick? I really hope so :P

    • luludrops says:

Off topic or maybe on topic since this has to do with bad jokes: Georgia’s intro will be in Georgian.
      MOLODINI DASRULDEBA (Expectation will end),
YOVELI DGE USHENOD MARTOOBISTVIS (Days without you – I am alone)
MENANEBA,SHENI XMA, MENATREBA (I miss your voice)
SATQMELI YOVELTVIS MAINC RCHEBA (I have something to tell you).

Maybe I’m A Joker participating is a blessing in disguise because it means that Visionary Dream will no longer be their worst result :D Mwahaha :P

  16. donniedarko83 says:

Worst SanMarinese entry EVER !Bottom 2 together with Georgia? And you were complaining about Montenegro?…

  17. Mer maid says:

Yeah San Marino is such a big let down :( I’m listening to ‘Un Giornata Belissima” right now and saying to myself: ”she must have been way too stonned when she agreed to sing Facebook ” :/ :( good luck to her,she will need it so much!

  18. Leo says:

i hate this song and i hate ralph siegel. he thinks he is ”cool” and reaches young people with a song about facebook and cyber sex?? the song is still the same kitschy sh*t like all of his songs.
and every year another country has to suffer, this man just wants money and fame…

  19. Martin McGuinness says:

What a load of old tosh! What on earth is San Marino thinking? (Is it written by Ralph Seigel, becasue if it is he really should give up!). So disappointing that an artist with such potential is given something so awful. (I actually am on Facebook and enjoy it because I can keep connected to family and friends all over)

Hooray our lovely Sara has arrived! Am so pleased that the nicest people from the otherside are here. Big Cheers. :)

  20. I should have known... says:

that Ralph Siegel was behind this dreck.

Over the past three years, he has qualified songs in the national selections of six different countries without any of them winning.

He finally gets his twentieth Eurovision song via an internal selection.

    Ugh!

I loved San Marino in 2008 & 2011, great entries. Now for 2012….no…just no. I really hope they change it, she has such a great voice and they give her a very terrible song.
