San Marino Confirms Participation

Posted: January 7, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in San Marino

San Marino – The EBU has not published the official list of countries in the Eurovision 2012 yet, but most of last year’s participants have already confirmed their participation in Baku. The latest confirmation comes from SMTV, the channel responsible for San Marino. The country’s participation at the contest is a done deal. The broadcaster is already starting the process of selecting its representative.

As half of the channel is owned by Italy’s national broadcaster RAI the Italian confirmation can only be seen as a formality. That leaves Armenia, the United Kingdom and Romania as countries that have not yet confirmed their participation. While the UK can be expected to be back, the Romanian broadcaster has to deal with financial difficulties but can also be expected to participate. Armenia’s participation is less certain as this year’s host country Azerbijan is their arch rival and the countries are basically in a state of war. Armenia had requested special security measures from the EBU.

Last year, Senite was chosen internally to represent San Marino. The singer performed  “Stand by,” but did not qualify to the final reaching only 16th place.

Now if only Italy would straight out say “Yes, we’re in” or “No, not this time”.

As for Armenia, from what I heard from some Armenians things are not looking good. They said that ARMTV will let the participant list do the talking and once the country isn’t there they’ll release an explanation instead of before the list is revealed…I hope that’s not true :( We’ll have to wait and see before the month’s over.

Always a pleasure to have them in the ESC. I guess they will be going for an internal selection. PS: I’m glad that my first ever comment on this site is on a microstate’s thread!
