United Kingdom – Sandie Shaw, who won the contest back in 1967 with “Puppet on a String“, was tonight appearing on the UK’s ‘Celebrity Mastermind‘ quiz show (official website can be found here) and caused such a reaction she trended on Twitter. At the age of 64 Ms Shaw was still wearing her trademark mini skirt, accessorised by platform heels, and her legs became the main talking point of excited tweeters. Her specialist subject was Buddhism, and she came last in the quiz.
She has, however, outraged some Eurovision fans by making comments that belittle the current Eurovision Song Contest. When asked by the show’s host John Humphrys ”So you won the song contest?” the 64 year-old former winner said, “Yes… when it was still worth winning.” She also said that she wishes she had forgotten ”Puppet on a String“, a song which she has never liked.

She has said that hundereds of times already… She should really be thankful that she won Eurovision… One of her old producers said in some documentary that her career only really broke through because of it
I think Eurovision is better these days – more fun, more participants, more audience, bigger and better stage. Back then it was mannequins in tuxedos and evening dresses trying to be Frank Sinatra. All that on black-and-white TV. I don’t think I would become a fan of Eurovision in the 60′s.
Compare it with music scene at the time – The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. Eurovision really became an exciting show in 70′s IMO.
