Pastora Soler: “Chicki-Chicki” Discredited Eurovision in Spain

Posted: January 1, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Spain

Spain – In an interview with Spanish website FormulaTV, the Spanish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, Pastora Soler revealed her expectations and opinions about Eurovision. Pastora is very pleased to have been chosen to represent Spain in Baku, although she reveals that she felt a little afraid at first, because of the unsatisfying Spanish results in recent years. After attempts at different kinds of selections, Spain decided to choose their representative through an internal selection this year. The Spanish public will only be able to choose the entry out of several propositions in a show in February.

Pastor said, “The worst that can happen is that I return to Spain with zero points, but we believe that we will be able to deliver a good performance that is worthy of Spain.” Pastora revealed that she does not know which style her song will be in yet. However, they will choose diverse songs and the selection will range from ballads to rhythmic themes.

.
When asked what she felt when she saw “El Chiki-Chiki” on the Eurovision stage, Pastor said, “This performance, perhaps, was what discredited Eurovision most in Spain. Last year’s representative was fantastic, Daniel Diges, too.But perhaps, “the Chiki-Chiki” marks a major difference in the respect for the other participating artists.”
She also said that her next step was to “improve their English” for the interviews. However, she will not sing in English, despite the fact that she listens to a lot of international artists.

I wish that all artists had this attitude but unfortunately we have seen many artists in ESC over the years who sang in ‘English’ but weren’t able to answer very easy questions in that language, Safura f. e.

And of course I agree with her opinion on “Baila el chiki-chiki”. However, we should never forget that Germany opened the door for all the disgraceful acts we have had to endure in the last 13 years by sending Guildo Horn in 1998. His act was more about climbing the scaffolding than it was about singing a song … and he came 7th nevertheless. :( Some people here in Germany still think that Guildo Horn helped modernising the contest. Well, since ‘contemporary’ seems to resemble ‘silly’ more and more every day in Western culture, I probably agree. I do not endorse the decline of ESC though. I’d rather have old-fashioned quality than contemporary garbage. Contemporary masterpieces are the best of course. Go Eesti Laul!

    • I agree with all you said, and I must say that I disliked a lot of the recent acts I’ve seen of Pastora (I like her older stuff better, and we know she said no to any flamenco) but she can sing and she has the perfect esc attitude, so i’m all for her!

since she said no to flamenco and copla I am not very excited about this artist anymore.. unless she make a wonderful ballad like Albania 12 or something very different

If she thinks Lucia and that cheap song was “fantastic” then I seriously doubt her taste. Rodolfo, a joke entry that is well done, is always going to be more interesting than anything this Pastora person has to offer.
