Eurovision Advent Calendar: Least Favourite Entry

Posted: December 22, 2011 by eurovisiontimes in Eurovision Advent Calendar

Eurovision Advent Calendar – 02 days until Christmas – Day 22 of our challenge – Granted, this is not your traditional Advent Calendar, but it will fulfil it’s purpose: Giving us something to discuss until Christmas Eve (and until the real beginning of the national final season in January). The idea is old and simple: Every day you have to find a Eurovision song according to a certain category. It’s a challenge for me and for you, our readers! We continue today with this question: What is your least favourite entry ever at a Eurovision Song Contest?

Please tell us your personal “favourite” in the comment section below! If your choice is quite exotic a YouTube link to the song will certainly be appreciated by other readers ;)

Here we go:

Again.. lots to choose from. “I love Belarus” was horrible this year, not the music or the performance, but the lyrics! Israel in 2000 with their horrible performance or Ireland’s Dustin the Turkey are just a little too obviously bad to make the cut. In the end it needs to be a song that tries to be good but fails miserably. There is one that I really hate (mostly because it keeps crawling into my brain from time to time):

Piero Esteriore & The MusicStars – Celebrate! (Switzerland 2004)

Looking forward to your choices and comments!

This trophy has to go to “I Love Belarus”. Why this wasn’t disqualified for its ideological background is absolutely beyond me.

  19. escadele says:

Greece 2011, Watch My Dance. It just doesn’t go together and its….its….Blegh!! I can’t stand it.

  20. Gravitas says:

Wolves of the Sea was amazing. Y’all bitches be crazy.

The worst for me is Denmark 2009. Assembly line garbage. Croatia 2011 was also horrendous.

  21. Anonymous says:

Spain 1980. I just don’t like it. Too “dark”.

  22. So many to choose from says:

Switzerland 2004? It should at least be a song that made the final.

Better limit this to the years when I was paying attention.

    01. 2005 Greece (and lowest scoring winner ever until 2011)
    02. 2003 Austria
    03. 2008 Iceland
    04. 2009 Finland
    05. 2007 Sweden
    06. 2010 Iceland
    07. 2009 Russia
    08. 2011 France
    09. 2004 Belgium
    10. 2011 Estonia (more overhyped songs than usual this year – including this one)
    11. 2009 Turkey
    12. 2003 Latvia
    13. 2006 Switzerland

Some non-qualifiers (worse songs in general, but at least they didn’t make the final):

    01. 2006 Iceland (truly annoying)
    02. 2008 Estonia
    03. 2007 Denmark
    04. 2010 Latvia
    05. 2009 Belgium
    06. 2011 Croatia

    08. 2004 Lithuania
    09. 2007 Switzerland
    10. 2011 Israel
    11. 2005 Portugal
