Hungary: National Selection With Two Semi-Finals

Posted: December 1, 2011 by eurovisiontimes in Hungary

Hungary – The popularity of the Eurovision Song Contest in Hungary has risen in recent years and especially last year. Today the Hungarian national broadcaster has announced that Hungary will choose its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku through a national final instead of an internal selection. At a press conference today the broadcaster started an open call for songs, which can be submitted until December 20. The national selection will consist of two semi-finals and a national final.

A panel of judges will select a yet undetermined number of songs from the open call to proceed to the semi-finals. From each semi-final four acts will then qualify for the national final. No dates have been announced yet for the televised shows. The list of semi-finalists is expected to be released in early January.

  1. going from not wanting to participate (2010) to a big show with two semis, oh my god, if they fail to qualify, it’ll be a huge disaster and lots of disappointment

but i wish them good luck and hope for, finally, a good song, there hasnt been one since 94

07 was ok too imo and I have a soft spot for Czésy … another nice one that did not stick out enough. And I have never understood the hype around NOX. Awful live singer. I sometimes wonder whether people operate the same way when it comes to food, prefering oversalted and burnt food they normally like to sth well prepared they normally like less …

      • when you blame fake hard rock for lordi, why dont you blame hungary 07 for fake “blues” or whatever they tried to clichéd copy? anyway i hate it and i don’t hate 2008 but find it too dull to like it… and of course 05 is purely awful… no I stick to what I said, 94 and still waiting

        • togravus says:

To me ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ is still little more than a schlager disguised as rock. Yes, it was noisy but then not everything that is noisy is rock imo. And then the masks and costumes … as camp as ESC can get and not better than sequins and feathers, at least in my book.
There was nothing fake about Hungary 07 on the other hand. It was just another blues with very strong live vocals and staged without a silly circus. Nothing to go WOW but, as I said, ok for me.

          • the fake ‘jeans shirt hobo style” with the BUS STOP is not a silly circus? wow we don’t define things the same way apparently

            • togravus says:

That was a proper and mildly atmospheric setting for the song imo … Neither did that BUS STOP sign dance, nor did it do a dress change, a flip-flop or some pointless hand waving. It didn’t wear a mask either. ;) But let’s not argue, Hungary 07 is far from being among my favourites and I’d rather invest my energy talking about those. I only called it OK and that’s what it will probably always be for me. Not more, not less.

I really liked Hungary this year, had she have been stronger in the final I am sure they would have got a better place. Anyway good luck to Hungary in 2012

  3. roselildk says:

I am happy the interest in ESC is growing there, I look forward to hear the songs. Best of luck Hungary :)

  4. Shevek says:

According to what I’ve read on the other site, ‘Both Hungarian and foreign composers are encouraged to send in their entries to the national broadcaster MTV.’

Although I support the existence of another NF, I could not disagree more with this rule. Anyway, I always hope for the best (and prepare for the worst LOL).

If they go for ethnic song I would like like this:

This ethno and rock combination is GREAT in Hungarian language!!

How good and nice is children choir here!! Why they don’t allow children choir in ESC!?? :( :( :(

    • I agree that Holdviola would be good, but that live is messy with lots of kids’ voices (so impossible for number on stage and kids)… id recomment something like this more : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shsp3hp2TdQ&feature=related

    • Jázmin says:

      Hi Marko, :)

      What about this one? ;)

      • Marko says:

        Hi Jazmin!! :)

        It’s AMAZING! ;-*
I usually dislike ethno songs in ESC because they are fake and ugly! But NOX in 2005 were great!! So I would like Hungary again to send quality ethnic entry!

        @ Morgan

I love that children choir, it’s really AWESOME, plus folk dance! :) Maybe it looks messy to you, but it isn’t at all..

      • togravus says:

Thanks a lot everyone. I didn’t know Holdviola but like them a lot. That’s what makes being an ESC fan such a fantastic thing. You discover new artists from all different countries all the time. :)

        • Marko says:

I showed you this video earlier..and you even told me that you don’t like children choir..so you know about her..I think it’s female name..but I’m not sure actually..

          @ Jazmin

is that female name Holdviola or it’s band name? :D

          • togravus says:

Yes, I remembered the clip … but I did not remember the name because, as you said, I did not like that one much … and still don’t like it much because of that children choir. But the other 2 songs are 100 % to my taste. :)

          • Jázmin says:

This is their band name… it means Moonviolet :) Vágta is their latest single. :D
I’m happy that you love this kind of music! :) Hope they will apply to the NF!

This is my favourite song from them:
