Iceland: Yohanna To Compete?

Posted: November 24, 2011 by eurovisiontimes in Iceland

Iceland -  The young singer Yohanna represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the ballad “Is It True” and brought the island its best placing ever as she came second after power house Alexander Rybak. This year Yohanna tried to return to the Eurovision stage with her song “Nótt” but was beaten by Sonni’s Friends in the Icelandic national final who sang a tribute to their friend and composer of the song, Sonni Brink, who had died before the national final.

This year Yohanna may return to the competition. What makes us think so? The exact same team that wrote her song “Nótt” appears on the new list of song writers that the Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV has published: María Björk Sverrisdóttir and Marcus Frenell will contribute a song to the national final once again. It was announced earlier that Yohanna would move to Norway to pursue her music career and is planning to release a new album in 2012. What better way to promote her album than through a Eurovision participation? Furthermore, she hinted that she might return to Eurovision if she finds the suitable song.

Comments
  1. Maybe she will try represent to Norway?

  2. Richard says:

I hope Yohanna does enter for Iceland, she should have won in 2009 and it was bad luck she was up against Norway that year.

  3. Shevek says:

She has an amazing voice indeed. She only needs to find a good song to go along with it.

P.S.: in spite of the frock she was wearing and the omnipresent stage, her 2009 performance was breathtaking.

  4. Marko says:

She’s boring as hell…I would like if she won’t try this year at least again..and especially not to ruin Norsk MGP….she’s one boring blond barbie..

  5. i was never touched by her charisma, and i hated her dress and performance in esc 2009 and the songs are often extremely americanized ballads that put me to sleep. That said she’s around 12th in 2009 in my list simply due to amazing vocals… if it is indeed the same team than “Nott” this won’t be a favorite of mine for sure

  6. Xello says:

In 2009 i have heard all songs before ESC, and Iceland was just ok for my taste… But performance and her voice was perfect and it became my favorite… I think that main reason for such high difference in points between her and Rybak is because months before ESC 2009 everyone talked about Norway winning, and beign big favorite, and Iceland was noticed after the contest…

But Nott, i didnt like… It was soulless imo compared to Is it true… Just wannabe reamake of the song…
If this years song will be similar, i think i will not like it…

    • Marko says:

It’s not sure that she will compete! I hope she won’t! because last year she almost has won…if that singer didn’t die before ESC she would have won NF easily with “Nott”..

Last year I loved Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir – “Ástin mín eina”, I would like if she will return!

Or Hera Bjork, she’s THE BEST!!

      • Xello says:

Hera was one of my biggest favorites of 2010… I want to see her again on ESC stage someday…

        • Xello says:

Oh yes, and great song of 2009 Denmarks selection…

          • Marko says:

Yeah I also like “Someday”, but in that year Dansk MGP I prefered 3 entries to Hera’s:

            1. Christina Undhjem – “Underneath My Skin” THE BEST :-* Should have won, i hope to se her participating in Norsk MGP because she is from Norway, or in Dansk MGP again

            2. Trine Jepsen – “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again” AMAZINg song, but outfit was sooo funny GOSH :D :D I hope she will return to ESC as well

            3. Sukkerchok - “Det’ det” they are always GREAT! Must go to ESC after 2 attempts!

    • Shevek says:

Yes, ‘Nott’ was rather souless indeed. I love and still listen to Buff’s ‘Sáluhjálp’, my nº 1 favourite from the last Icelandic NF.

  7. Marko says:

“I just love this crazy feeling
It’s like I’ve known you all my life
    Je ne sais quoi!!!”

    THE BEST!! :-* :)

I voted her a lot in semis!

  8. Noelinho says:

Oh, I do hope we see Yohanna at Eurovision next year. I am an unashamed fan :-)
