Switzerland – According to the SF official twitter page, Lys Assia is going to wear her winning dress of the 1956 Eurovision Song Contest in the Swiss national final which is due to be held 10th December. The tweet read “I’m going to wear the 1956 winning dress at the national final (hope it still fits…)“.

Lys Assia is a strong favourite to win the Swiss ticket to Baku with her ballad “C’etait Ma Vie”. Could the dress be good luck for the former Eurovision winner? The dress is expected to be one of the most discussed topics when the Swiss national final is taking place. The whole of Europe will be watching Assia waiting to see if she makes it to Baku. Lys Assia won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956, which was the first edition of Europe’s favourite TV-show. The ballad was written by Ralph Siegel and Jean Paul Cara, here it is:

Futhermore Assia is in the lead with 30.77% of the votes in our Swiss national final poll. Can the Eurovision legend make it to Azerbaijan?

That’ll be a trip down memory lane. :)

Well, as I said before, I wouldn’t underestimate this lady. She has always known what she is doing. Moreover, she is some sort of institution in Switzerland, which is a small country too, and will get a good share of promotion and media coverage until the Swiss NF. Finally, she is a German speaking Swiss who will sing a song in French and won the 1st ESC with a French chanson in Italian speaking Ticino. So everyone in Switzerland (perhaps except for those parts of Graubünden where Romansh is spoken) can relate to her in a positive way. I still think that Lys might be a main contender … unless she boms live of course.

Totally off-topic but I have to share this with someone. I was at my sis’ house all day helping her to put together the Ikea furniture she had bought for her daughters’ rooms. While working, we watched old contests via beamer on the oppoiste wall … and gosh! I fell in love with ‘Voltarei’. That song came from nowhere on my list and has rushed up my list into my all-time top 20 today. Dora had the most tasteful styling of the (aesthetically) hideous 80s too.
