France: Listen To The Full Version of “Sognu” + Official Presentation Tonight

Posted: March 7, 2011 by Sekhmet Morgan in France

France – Tonight, during the music show “Chabada” Fr3 will present “Sognu”, the song which will  represent the French republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Amaury Vassili was already officially announced as the French singer for Düsseldorf. A snippet of “Sognu”, a bolero in Corsican (title means “Dream”), was already released earlier last week and now the full song can be found on YouTube. Still some people are looking forward to see Amaury’s full presentation in “Chabada” a popular musical show in which singers perform old favorites. Tonight’s show is in honor of “women power” due to the international “Day of Women” tomorrow and Amaury will be the only man singing the only new song tonight. Here is the song composed by Daniel Moyne and Quentin Bachelet and written by Jean-Pierre Marcellesi.

Webcast:

The show will start at 20:35 CET but Amaury is expected to be the big finish. You can watch a webcast of the show here.

    Go Amaury, go!

  2. the responses around are getting out and they’re really good

i myself was very very skeptical when i saw Amaury was chosen and that it was opera, but thank god France would never do popera and this has nothing to do with Malena… I hope he goes alone on stage and they make a big light show, he has so much charisma and a good voice that televoters could buy it, im pretty sure juries will too, my my a possible new top 5 for France in this bad year? It’s not impossible actually!

i have it second to Bosnia, unbeatable right now, but i have to admit they’re really that much better and i think the live will decide which one i like best, but San Marino or the Uk can also walk to the top, i now have Estonia 3rd, Dk 4th and Italy 5th, Germany still 6th Serbia moved down 7th : these are basically the songs i care for the most…

I love the bolero beat in the background and the intro of the song. Unfortunately I’m not a real fan of the voice and it tends to get a bit boring. I prefer the full version to the snippet. I have it 14th in my list so far.

  3. Razvan says:

At first i didn’t thought much of the song because it’s opera, not really my taste, but i gotta say this song is impressive and i like it.

It’s definitely one of the best this year and it should get a top 10.

  4. Ok. I don’t know what to think. I like the snippet more than the full version to be honest… But I’m happy that thanks to France we have more diversity in this year’s Eurovision…

  5. togravus says:

Well, I have never been a fan of a song like that being sung in operatic voice and I would definitely love France 2011 if it was song by a rough and very male voice (stereotypes, I know … LOL … but sth like an I murvini voice would suit the song much better imo). However, I admit that ‘Sognu’ is a strong and well crafted song … it builds very well and is extremely imotional without being tacky. I have always believed that France had too much class to do a popera thing à la Sweden 2009. :)
However, I doubt that France will be in my top 10 at the end of the season. It is in 11th place on my preliminary list.

    Bonne chance!

    1. Greece
    2. Germany
    3. BiH
    4. Serbia
    5. Cyprus

    • togravus says:

      * emotional

    • Paschalis says:

I Murvini were great by the way, thank you for introducing them to me!

    • yeah it’s not really your type, i actually don’t mind his voice and i’m not sure about our chances with a rougher more folk image (they havent done great in televoting lately, like portugal 2009 for instance)… it would make it a better entry to us, not for the viewer, so i understand their choice, and yes I Murvini are great but we failed at getting them interested (just like we wanted Daft Punk but got Sébastien Tellier instead, not that it’s a bad thing since Tellier nailed it, but it’s not the same impact as internationally reknown Daft Punk, just like BBC probably dreams of Franz Ferdinand or Radiohead and ends up with Blue)

      • togravus says:

‘just like BBC probably dreams of Franz Ferdinand or Radiohead and ends up with Blue’

LOL … yes, poor ESC indeed!

        • in the big countries, it’s tougher to get people involved, even Italy ended up with the “new comer” instead of the big guns (but i’m glad, really glad)… think of huge german names and think if they’d ever consider esc? better stick to lena :p

  6. CC says:

good song that enters my top3 with ease. I guess it’ll fail with the jury but europe will love it. :)

    • Why do you think it will fail with the juries?

      • togravus says:

Don’t you know CC from that other site? He always predicts anything not in English to be punished by the juries … just like Israel was last year or France in 2009. LOL
Anyway, he is a bit like a very simple machine. Press a button and you know which result you will get. ;)

        *No hard feelings, CC!*

        • CC says:

no, adarvus, I never stated that. it’s not about the language but the way a song is presented. but amusing to see how some users always feel constrained to make comment although they don’t have a clue. ;)

      • Luis USA says:

If it’s CC from ESCToday then he believes it will fail because the jury ignores non-English songs

      • CC says:

it’s neither catchy nor idol/disney-like enough to convince them I fear. chances are higher that televoting goes for traditional and uncommercial considering split results of recent years. some people also thought spain 2010 would be a jury avourite but it was vice versa.
        well, let’s see. :D

        • was patricia idol or disney? 4th with juries…

          • CC says:

neither idol nor disney. but she was (is) a huge star.

            • togravus says:

So where is your rule when every example we give is an exception? Imo, this whole the juries punish certain kinds of songs business is a huge myth and misunderstanding brought into this world by we all know who (not CC … just to avoid misunderstandings).

There are certainly more urgent issues to address when it comes to biased jury voting: Why do Turkey and Azerbaijan / Greece and Cyprus still exchange their annual 12 points? Why haven’t the juries had any effect on that? It is not as if Jon Lilygreen was a big star in Greece before the contest … or Safura in Turkey … Why haven’t the juries changed anything about the ex-USSR countries almost always giving their 6 top scores to other ex-USSR countries? There’s jury corruption which seriously damages our beloved ESC imo …

And why is Europe still so parochial? Why does Johanna say ‘To our dear friends in …’ when the points go to Denmark but not if the points go to Romania, Malta or Portugal? And it is not just Johanna (I only gave this lovely lady as an example) but can be observed with almost every spokesperson … Gosh! … Well, at least that elderly guy from Athens, who has announced the hellenic vote since the days of Solon, had enough decency to smile in a very embarrassed way when he announced the 12 to Cyprus last year. (And don’t get me wrong, please, I had Cyprus in my top 5 last year … but I wasn’t happy at all when Jon & The Islanders got those points …)

              *rant over*

              • CC says:

I don’t agree with all of the points you mentioned but nonetheless I like your refreshing pertinent comment this time. *thumb up*

              • CC says:

                okay, to answer this one:
“So where is your rule when every example we give is an exception?”
it’s no exception of the rule. indeed it might be unusual for an artist like patricia having commercial success but it don’t touch my (and the one of others) thesis the jury goes for commercial criteria mainly. and as an actual fact exactly this belongs to their officially tasks made by s. stockselius.

              • Razvan says:

That’s so true togravus and that’s why sometimes i’m dissapointed by eurovision .. :(

    • Razvan says:

I think the jury will love it too ! ;)

  7. I’m extremely happy with this. I was actually fearful for it after having heard the snippet, but the full version is absolutely astounding. However, it will remain un-ranked until I hear it live, just like Cyprus and Slovakia. At the same time, I assume he’d be performing it live at the presentation tonight.

  8. MJ14 says:

Love it! Once again France has impressed me with something totally different to the year before. I wouldn’t rule out another decent placing for France this year. :)

  9. Shevek says:

    CC is here too. :)

I’ve just listened to France 11 a couple of times and I love it. I have nothing new to add to what has already been said. It builds well, I love the instrumentation and his voice suits this song very well. I am glad that Portugal did not send ‘Em nome do amor’, it would pale in comparison to ‘Sognu’. This is my current top 10:

    1. Belgium
    2. Italy
    3. Serbia
    4. Germany
    5. Cyprus (the studio version)
    6. B&H
    7. France (the studio version)
    8. Estonia
    9. Lithuania
    10. Turkey

P.S.: Homens da Luta feature on the front page of the Portuguese daily ‘i’, http://www.ionline.pt/conteudos/home.html

    • thanks for the ps! wow 6 of the 7 songs i really like for esc 2011 are in your top 10 and i have turkey also in my list, i’m surprised a thow well belgium is still doing but i fear they will do a bad live and disappoint you (but since you love the song it’s ok) im also waiting for cyprus live but i do like it… only Lithuania is not my cup of tea, i think i prefer Slovenia as the best pop-ballad so far (ukraine and austria being big no no)

  10. Razvan says:

I’ve listened this song a few times and it’s a grower. If he can sing as good live as in this version, i think he will stun the crowd in Dusseldorf.
This is my current top 10 now :

    1. Bosnia & Herzegovina
    2. Netherlands
    3. France
    4. Serbia
    5. Austria
    6. Denmark
    7. Slovenia
    8. Slovakia
    9. Estonia
    10. Latvia

  11. Alex says:

OMG. It’s a heaven in my ears!!! Probably my new #1 Eurovision entry this year.

  12. Roselil says:

merci beaucoup France.. you didnt disappoint me!! This is so strong and real, not a fake poperah stuff. I love it, I hope the televoters will do it too.

    Good luck France

  13. Xello says:

Great song… I like it a lot… I will rank all new songs after friday probably but this will be sure in my top 10…

  14. well patrick fiori will also be on the show apparently *watching*

  15. Mainshow says:

    7. Slovakia
    8. Spain

    10. Ukraine / Poland / Turkey

    • wow it took down Jewards?

      • Mainshow says:

Yes, I didn’t think that it would happen, either!

I bought Jedward’s CDs, while having spent my days in London. Their song is still amazing, but I have to admit that France is more impressive and the song is stunning! A masterpiece! – I’ve never thought that I will see such a song on a ESC stage! – I only need “Szerelem miért múlsz” by Wolf Kati for Hungary and I will already have my favourites of 2011 ;)

  16. Roselil says:

I wish one of them wins: Germany, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Cyprus, France and Denmark.. Israel may join my list.. of course only with Tu du du song :)

  17. steve goode says:

France have done well and I have them 2nd, Austria still no1

  18. Goran Lakic says:

    Top 3
