Georgia: Low Interest in Eurovision?

Posted: February 3, 2011 by eurovisiontimes in Georgia

Georgia – As they have only received 30 songs, the Georgian national broadcaster GPB has extended the deadline to submit songs for the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Submissions can still be sent to the broadcaster until February 10. An expert jury will then select a number of entries for the national final expected to be held in mid February. Georgia will compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 10. In our own pre-Eurovision competition “The Eurovision Knockout 2011” Georgia will compete in Heat 2 against Italy and Macedonia.

Maybe that if they sung in their own language, interest from local songwriters and viewers would be bigger? And if they did, at least my interest in Georgia would be bigger.

Georgia’s track record is pretty decent. Their 2010 should have been in Top 5 and it wasn’t out of reach. Sad it didn’t happen.

30 songs is more than enough to organize national final. Quality may be the problem but I think that even 5 songs may be enough to pick from.
