Moldova: Listen to the 98 songs

Posted: January 19, 2011 by eurovisiontimes in Moldova

Moldova – The Moldovan national broadcaster has now released the 98 songs which were submitted to them. Earlier they had expressed their discontent about the low number of submissions. Here you can listen to the songs. A jury will pick at most 30 entries which will qualify for the next, televised stage of the competition.

There are only (!!!!) 93 songs actually. I ‘ve heard a few of them and the Moldovans seem to have a very interesting group of songs again, unlike their ESC next door neighbours who offered us a weak NF (again). Here are a few songs that I liked:

‘Dacă dragoste mai e’ by Natan
    ‘Nu cred’ by Irina Coval
‘Nu-mi pare rau’ by Putin Tatiana
    ‘Let’s jazz’ by Natalia Barbu
    ‘Şi tac’ by Corina Cuniuc
    ‘Rămîi’ by Aluzia
    ‘Step back’ by Stela Boţan
‘Save me tonight’ by Tatiana Heghea
    ‘Сон’ by Шептефрац Александр

P.S.: I know that Tatiana’s accent is off-putting, but her song is an outstanding ballad that benefits immensely form her excellent voice. ‘Nótt’ pales in comparison, for instance. I have not yet heard most of the available hopefuls.

Well, I have listened to all of them. (Stuck at my desk all the time these days …)

Generally this is a very weak bunch of songs (terrible English, a lot of both ethnic and non ethnic shake it, bimbo! stuff etc.) but there are some fantastic, some very good and some decent songs too. Here are the ones I love or like:

    1. Doiniţa Gherman – Viaţa
    2. Zdob si Zdub – So Lucky
    3. Natalia Barbu – Let’s Jazz
    4. Fantastic 4 – Wild Burning
    5. Alexandru Sendrea & Jana Stefan – Traim o viata
    6. M-Studio – Night Reflection
    7. Odry – Doina, dor nemărginit
    8. Ionel Istrati – Hot Girl (Yes, I know … but this is exactly the kind of cr*p I tend to fall for …)
    9. Tatiana Heghea – Save Me Tonight (despite the accent …)
    10. Stela Boţan – Step Back
    11. Milenium – In memoriam

I hope that at least some of them will get to the final. My top 3 must be there!

P.S. I liked Natan’s song too but that one has vanished …

  3. Roselil says:

Thanks for posting some names Shevek and Togravus, I had no patience to listen all of them.. now I can check yours favs.

I have checked few songs on the youtube..and I really liked Veaceslav Daniiliuc & Andrey Hadjiu an etnic-bimbo (as u say Toggie) song..and with a bad English..

  4. Noelinho says:

I’ll be honest, it’ll take a lot to come anywhere neat Epic Sax Guy.

  5. speaking of which did you guys hear Tiiu Kiik’s song? it’s disappointing

    • Shevek says:

Morgan, I’ve just heard ‘Second chance’. Tiiu’s unique sound is there, but I still have not my mind about the song.

      • yeah i know, it’s definitely better than most, but after “the one and only – love” this is still a disappointment, it doesn’t have the instant hit aspect her previous song had, i understand why she wasn’t picked right away (unlike the masterpiece Laika Virgin had)

  6. Shevek says:

Now that I’ve heard many Moldovan hopefuls, I have to admit that the overall level of the songs isn’t as good as it was in 2010. However, there is some worthy material that I would like to hear in the final such as:

‘Dacă dragoste mai e’ by Natan
    ‘Love song’ by Diana Staver
    ‘Nu cred’ by Irina Coval
    ‘Wild burning’ by Fantastic 4
    ‘Night reflection’ by M-Studio
‘Nu-mi pare rau’ by Putin Tatiana
    ‘Încă îndrăgostit’ by Aurel Chirtoacă
    ‘dor nemărginit’ by Doina
    ‘Viaţa’ Doiniţa Gherman
‘Traim o viata…’ Alexandru Şendrea şi Iana Ştefan
    ‘Let’s jazz’ by Natalia Barbu
    ‘Şi tac’ by Corina Cuniuc
    ‘Rămîi’ by Aluzia
    ‘Step back’ by Stela Boţan
    ‘In memorium’ by Milenium
    ‘Boy’ by Kate Ryan
‘Save me tonight’ by Tatiana Heghea
    ‘Сон’ by Alexandru Șaptefrați

  7. Shevek says:

I am sorry, Morgan. I should have written Kati Rain LOL.

Barbu’s song is good. Give it a try. I am not sure as to how the European juries and televoters would react to it.

  8. Xello says:

My favorite is Cave of life of Ianna from romanian NF… Dont know how many time ive said it…

  9. Anonymous says:

I agree with TC’s assessment. Will those 20 good songs be chosen? We’ll see.

  10. Shevek says:

    Gosh… I wrote that.

    • annoying to have to log in always isn’t it? i often delete all cookies and then forget to log in again lol, we’re all Anonymous (and not the teen band of 2007 that should have made the top 5)

      • togravus says:

Well, I guess we pretty much know each other anyway, anonymous or not. :)

Btw, the opening shot from the 2007 final is one of my favourite ESC moments. You can see fans holding up a sign asking ‘Where Is Andorra?’

      • lol true, btw if we speak of that, i think esc 2007 was among the better hosted one! true most people would go for Moscow 2009, the second best of the decade but seriously, just for the Hosts themselves Helsinki win it all

      • Shevek says:

Andorra, come back one day, please. :)

I wrote that for you Togravus.

      • togravus says:

Thanks, Shevek, that’s what virtual friends are for! :)

I do not like the way Moscow did it at all. Too loud and glaring for my taste, and I really, really hate (I very rarely use that word) the semi hosts. They were terribly cheap and had bad English (and even worse French, if any at all …), and the way they misbehaved while opening the envelopes! Gosh, they acted as if it was all about their zero talented selves and their silly jokes, which was very disrespectful towards the singers imo. When it comes to the official part (envelopes, votes), I loved Nadia this year, call me old-fashioned …
2006 and 2007 are my favourite 2000+ contest when we talk about hosting, I guess.

      • Athens 2006? that’s a no for me, but then again i hated all of the 2006 esc contest which remains the year i almost left it all completely

as for Moscow, putting aside the horrible hosts, i agree i like smaller and cozier better but if you go big, i think the way moscow did it was nice, it ended up looking really good and impressive after all

i did like the hosts of Oslo and while everyone hated them back then, i still remain quite nostalgic about the 2002 hosts

      • togravus says:

Oh, thanks for reminding me, Morgan. I mixed things up … meant 2007 (Helsinki) and 2008 (Belgrade). Athens was rather bad, I agree.

  11. Xello says:

    @Sekhmet Morgan
Nice to meet you too… (Sorry for posting it here cause i cant reply)
