This time with news from: Slovakia, Andorra, France, Azerbaijan, Switzerland and Finland!
Slovakia – Today the Slovak television channel STV has started a poll concerning Slovakia’s future in the Eurovision Song Contest. If you want Slovakia to continue competing please vote for “áno” meaning “yes” in Slovak. You can find the poll on the right site of this website. Slovakia has not yet confirmed its participation due to financial troubles.
Andorra – The Catalan newspaper “Diari d’Andorra” reported today, that Andorra will not return to the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The director of the Andorran television channel RTVA, Jordi Marticella, told the paper that Andorra can’t participate due to a tense financial situation. As there have been cutbacks on the budget of the television station, they are not able to pay the participation fees. “a participation at Eurovision is a topic that we will always discuss, but currently we do not have an option”. 2011 will thus be the second year in a row without Andorra.
France – Jonathan Cerrada, French participant in 2004, has expressed his will to return to the Eurovision Song Contest either for his home Belgium or the home of his parents Spain. Cerrada is currently touring in France with a musical based on songs by Charles Aznavour. In the video section, you can find one of his songs: Ruban noir, a song about the terror attacks in Madrid, where Jonathan sings in French and Spanish.
Azerbaijan – In Baku, the casting for the Eurovision Song Contest has started. Applications will be excepted until October 15. Up t0 100 candidates will be accepted into the second round. The selection process this year is supposed to give the public a bigger impact on the results. There still will be a jury, tough.
Switzerland – The open online applications for the Swiss representative in 2011 are pouring in. Among other, Todomondo, who participated for Romania in 2007, have entered three songs. Here you can listen to their propositions.
Finland – Kita, the drummer of 2006 winners Lordi, has left the band to pursue solo projects. Kita will compete in the Finnish selection for Eurovision Euroviisut 2011 as part of the duo Stala&So.
